These Reviews Are For A Different Film
I just watched City Beneath the Sea (1953) on Amazon Prime video, spurred on by the reviews giving the film an old sci fi yarn worthy of watching status, only to find that the undersea city bits are about 2% of the whole film and the reviews here are for a different film altogether. It wasn't too bad, but it was no where near what I was expecting. Decent performances by Robert Ryan and Anthony Quinn, but the film is very dull overall with little underwater sequences which are very poor.So if you are thinking of watching this film here on Amazon Video, look on IMDb for City Beneath the Sea (1953) to check out the reviews etc, rather than City Beneath the Sea (1971) which is what people seem to be reviewing here.

Decent adventure - very poor PQ and sound...
This is a review of the Prime Ryan/Quinn underwater salvage adventure, not the Irwin Allen sci-fi flick. It's a well-plotted, nicely mounted, partly location-shot, old-fashioned adventure yarn which could look pretty good with a decent re-mastering, or better still, restoration. Sadly this Prime print is damaged and blurry, with appalling sound quality (although this improves a little once the main titles are over).I really think Amazon should institute some sort of pricing policy for Prime titles; when one pays the same price for a train wreck like this as another film with a pristine HD print, something's wrong...

Fantastic fantasy adventure - always been one of my favourites
Always loved this film when I was a kid and it doesn't disappoint. So glad to find it on DVD. Would have preferred full widescreen but this 16:9 format still looks impressive - particularly the undersea shots of Pacifica.

Sound quality is shocking
I did not make it more than five minutes into this becuase the sound quality is like a bad screen pirate copy. Do not pay good money forr this until they remaster the sound.
