Motorola Flip Shell for Moto G - Retail Packaging - Violet (1st Generation Only)

After I purchased my Motorola Moto G I set off to find a something to personalize and help protect the phone. I looked at everything from ordinary cases, to the grip shells, and Otterboxes. Mostly what I fear happening to my device is screen damage as I don't drop my phone. I didn't get an Otterbox solely due to cost and lack of screen protection in the Commuter case which is the thinner one. My hands are small and I don't want a really thick, bulky phone which is why I was not interested in their Defender case. Lack of screen protection and desiring a thinner phone led me to not purchase an ordinary case from Amazon of which there are many. I don't like the stick on screen protectors.I did not get a grip shell because I didn't like the colors offered and wanted better screen protection. That is what led to me to the flip shell. It's like a smart cover for an iPad in that the screen turns on when you open the cover. There are lots of colors to choose from. The only thing that kind of sucks is flipping it under for phone calls--but it's easy enough to get used too. It is also bothersome when taking photos--although just letting it hang down seem to work well The flip shell stays over the screen unless opened very well. It is easy to install even though you do have to remove the back shell that covers the non-removable battery of the Moto G. It does fit perfectly and has a nice grip over the entire shell which makes it much less slippery.Overall pros--great grippy surface, protection for screen (even though the Moto G does have Gorilla Glass), and turned the screen on when flipped open (like a smart cover for an iPad).cons-doesn't offer good protection with drops (like an Otterbox), flip shell top can be annoying when using the camera or talking on the phone. However I found the last two can be adapted for.I do worry that the flip shell top may get worn from constantly folding it to the back. However, as long as it lasts a year I won't be too disappointed.

I bought the red flip shell because I like the look of the red and black together, plus lighter colors will show dirt & wear easier due to the material. I also purchased the regular shell along with my moto g, but after 1 use, I switched back to the flip shell (it was just too slippery and flimsy). I really like the flip shell. It adds very little weight or bulk to the phone, all the while protecting both the back and front of the phone from cosmetic damage/scratches and light drops. The cover locks to the screen magnetically and when opened will automatically wake your phone up without button presses, which is handy. The outside material is a sturdy and grippy, textured faux-leather that does not easily fall out of my pockets or get knocked off of tables or slip from my fingers (like the plastic cases that always had me dropping my phone), and the inside is a smooth suede-like material that protects the screen. There are cutouts for all ports EXCEPT for the camera (on the front). This means when taking pictures, you can't fold the flap back for easy single-handed holding, you have to leave the flap hanging open while you take them and it often gets in the way unless you use a second hand to stabilize it, especially for portrait photos, it's just awkward and annoying. Still not enough of a problem for me to switch from this case though, you just get used to dealing with it. I think the price is a bit high, but it does the job of both a screen protector and case in one, so...not too bad. Knocked off half a star due to pricing and half a star for the missing camera cutout. Both are minor issues though and this case is still my favorite phone case ever. Note: I've had my flip shell for several months now (frequently in pockets, purses, backpacks, and out in the open on desks etc.) and have not had any issues with humidity build-up or dust in my flip shell interior like others have and I live in a humid environment with very high summer temps currently.

I scanned through numerous case options for my new smartphone Moto G reading through the reviews. I saw many mixed reviews on many various products. I wanted to invest in a case that would not be a disappointment because it wasn't what I thought I was buying. Although this one was a bit more expensive ($20) I was a bit hesitant, but I am glad I went with this purchase because it met my expectation.Pros:This case replaces the back of your phone with a flip screen attached with a thin strip of material so that it covers and protects the screen from damage. It has a magnet in the flipping part which keeps it from loosely coming open. Being as it replaces the old back, it only adds less than 1 cm to the total side width. The phone was designed for such a case as this because when you flip open the magnetic cover it turns the phone onto its lock screen automatically which is a possibly unnoticeable, but convenient feature.Cons: This case does not completely protect your screen from dust as the cover does slid a bit on the front still holding its magnetic grip. I keep my phone like this in my side pants pocket and so dust seems to gather around the very edge of the screen in small amounts. Also, because the magnetic case cover is attached to the back casing, it doesn't hold or feel the same when you trying to type using two hands; you basically have to fold the cover behind the phone which doesn't give you quite as good of a grip on the device itself when you are holding it vertically. I feel this con is outweighed by the fact your screen is protected the majority of the time and you aren't going to loose the attached cover.What I do not know is how long this cover will last, I have only had mine a week. Please keep in mind as well that my opinions are based solely on the fact that this is the only cover I have ever tried (not seen, viewed or researched) and this is my first smartphone I have owned.

Great case that replaces the original case back and adds a well needed sturdy screen protection. It's well built, lightweight and automatically enables screen locking the moment the front cover hits the screen. If you're looking for this type of phone cover, look no further.

The earlier Moto G cover was damaged after 2 years.So new one purchased 1 year back,Mainly purchased for specific features like, auto screen lock on flip( Due to Magnetic material on the flip cover) inspite of little bit higher price.But as the material is good, still it is good even after 1 year.

Good quality flipcover

After trying a couple of knockoffs from China that didn't work out, I bit the bullet and bought an original shell.While I still think this shell is a little expensive given the low price of the phone, it is an excellent case, and the front flap goes a long way in terms of preventing the accidental wakeups and dialing that I had before getting the case.The plastics are well made, and it fits the phone very well, as you would expect from a first party case.The magnet is a nice touch, although I am a little concerned that it weakens signal reception based on my non-scientific observations. In any case, it hasn't been the source of any major issues for me.

Excellent item. Bit costly as its imported.
