Pirate Queen you say?!?
“What does she mean to you?”“Everything”Okay so first off I should mention I received an ARC in return for my honest review. That being said I also have pre-purchased my own copy as well!I’m assuming if you’re reading this review you are caught up with the series and have read book two. But if not stop here cause there are spoilers afoot! Scroll to the bottom from a TLDR spoiler-free review! Also there are swears. I like books and I curse a lot okay! You've been warned!*************************************************************Alright with that out of the way here we go:Holy bananas!!!!!!!Let’s start with a quick summary while I try to get my brain to an emotionally healthy place yeah?So we last saw Vi stranded on the beach of Meru after her encounter with Adela the bitch queen pirate. She’s wounded, mostly unconscious and just all around not in a great place. She’s coping with the betrayal of her best friend and life’s just not freaking going her way. BUT! Taavin is here. Like IRL here! After waiting for two books we have Taavin. And now their adventures to save the world from Raspian can begin in honest. In Failed Future, you’ll find shapeshifters (Morphi), pirates, douchebags, love, betrayal, adventure, snark, character growth, shocking twist, and a cliffhanger to boot. Honestly, everything you could look for is in this book.So now that we’ve recapped a little let me say this. I can OFTEN predict movies and books. It’s honestly a curse and friends and family hate me because I often spoil things without meaning to.But Failed Future dished me up some “holy shiz did that just freaking happen twists!” When a writer can do this in a way that leaves me saying “I should have seen this coming but I didn’t” they’ve done their job right. If I'm being honest, I’ve been in love with Elise Kova since book one of the Air Awakens series. I’ve read every single one of her books. Kova’s talent lies her ability to write main characters that are deeply flawed but also incredibly lovable and relatable. She manages to make you feel like you are on this journey with them. You empathize and understand their faults while cheering them on to be better. Some authors just can’t do this. They just write snark for the sake of snark and call it character development. When in reality it adds little to no value to any character.Failed Future has a wonderful pace as well. Kova writes it just right. She hooks you with amazing moments that make you stop breathing because you are so god damn nervous and then she slows it down so you can rest and recoup. Honestly, if I could have, I would have foregone sleep to finish this book. Curse you real-life needing me to be adulty!!!!Another one of Kova’s many talents in writing amazing relationships that break your heart and make you feel so whole all at once. Vi and Taavin’s romance is very Romeo and Juliet. Vi even mentions in the book how strong her love is for him but she worries she may be setting her self up for some heartbreak. Now in fairness Vi is also fresh off the boat of betrayal and she has to battle the fine line between protecting herself from future pain, while also allowing herself to be loved and love others. We are also introduced to some new characters, one, in particular, being Arwin. Arwin is similar to Vi. It’s clear she’s suffered heartbreak and betrayal so she isn’t quick to trust. The development of their friendship feels so natural. They understand each other but also could learn from each other if given the chance. It definitely adds to the book in a great way!Don't get me started on Ulvarth though. That man sucks more than wet socks on a rainy day. Seriously, I can't wait for karma to bite him right in the arse.TLDR review:All around Failed Future is an amazing addition to the Vortex Chronicles. It adds to the already existing story, introduces new twists and turns, but answers just enough questions to not leave you feeling like you got nothing out of this book. You’ll cheer on characters and feel as if you are part of their story. You love their faults because you understand them, but you also want them to succeed and be better. What good is a character without growth right?Elsie Kova is an amazing writer who knows her readers. Her ability to create a story that is both unbelievable and at the same time relatable is truly a gift. I highly recommend picking this book up.Failed Visions is currently available for pre-order at the time of writing this review and will be released July 21st, 2019!

Need the next book!
4.75 *Oh how far Vi has come. She is no longer the innocent and naive Princess she was back in the North. Yet she is much the same. She is still too much of each world to fit into either.“Now, she was an occupant of his, and even the princess who belonged nowhere had never felt so out of place.”In two short books, Vi has morphed into a strong woman who would do whatever it took to save her family; fate be damned. With all the shit she’s gone through this shift is not only realistic but so necessary. She felt no remorse to the lives she took. No hesitation in using whomever necessary. And for that, I love her all the more. There is a darkness in her, and I love that she embraces it. It is a contrast from her mother, who always did what she had too, but also worried about the people caught in her way.Taavin is a more complex character. I was wary of him in the first book. I loved him in the second. Now I just can’t pin him down. He was troubled and tortured. Kind and compassionate. Clever and rash. At times I wanted to wrap him in a hug. Others I wanted to throttle him. He may always be a mystery to me, but I enjoy every moment of it.The characters and relationships in this book all grew so much. Vi and Taavin went through so much together. With all that, they needed to evolve.“‘You’re not the same woman I first met’ ‘No one stays the same,’ Vi whispered.”No one who has gone through what these two have could ever stay the same. No relationship could ever remain the same. Change is not always good, but it is inevitable. I love the progression of their relationship and want more,I’m hesitant on the ending. I honestly don’t know how I’ll feel about it till the next book. It was unexpected for sure. The next book will have so much to do, and I can't wait. All in all, this is the perfect continuation of Vi’s story. I loved it and need the fourth book now! Thanks for the arc. This is my honest opinion.

Well, that happened.
So, I do this thing where I binge a book, only for there to (half the time) be books in the series not released yet. The responsible thing would have been to wait until October (I think that’s when book four comes out) to devour this number.Because now all the things have happened and I don’t know what to do with my life. This book gave me just... just all the feels. I would give it all the stars for one particular recurring character I LOVE, though I gotta say, Vi is turning out to be one of my favourite leading protagonists. She’s just incredible, as is this instalment to the Vortex Chronicles. I’m gonna stop there, because if I continue, I don’t think I’ll stop.

The Air Awakens Vortex Chronicles just get better and better!
Elise Kova is a master fantasy writer with fresh storylines in all of her series. Even though this series is a continuation of the Air Awakens original series it’s new and exciting!
