Great update to the original, but battery life is lacking
I was one of those kids with a keychain blob of Tamagotchis and other digital pets in the 90s, so when I saw these newer Tamagotchis finally get an English release, I had to get one... and then another one! My friend also got two. No issues with scratched screens on arrival as mentioned in other reviews (though the screens do scratch extremely easily, so you will need to be careful), but one of my friend's boxes had a huge rip through it so it sounds like there are quality issues with the packaging/physical product design in general. As far as the Tamagotchi game goes, I thought $60 was a bit steep, but I still got two of them so they're definitely worth it if you like digital pets. The artwork and character animations are really cute, and the different locations and items are nice. The amount of characters you start with is limited, but the whole focus of this set of Tamagotchis is marrying them and breeding them for different character combinations and traits. This is definitely the most fun part for me, and while you do need two Tamagotchis to unlock all of the locations and characters, there's also a phone app that lets you do matchmaking with other players and the monthly app-specific character. This way you still have a chance to get traits from characters you don't have. You can also get extra items and Gotchi points from the app as well, though right now there's not much you can do beyond that. Once your Tamagotchi is 2nd generation, you can have its parents watch it most of the day so you don't have to worry about it getting sick or dying while you're at school or work which is a huge plus and makes the game feel more chill. Sometimes your Tamagotchis will have two kids instead of one (though they're effectively one character in the game) which means more chances for fun gene combos. The only real complaint I have about these is the battery life. I have a set of high powered rechargeable AAA batteries, which you'll definitely need since these things eat through batteries like they're nothing. I get a Low Battery screen about once a week. This seems pretty ridiculous to me, especially since the batteries are only half drained when I take them out to charge them. My friend got a pack of non-rechargeables and only gets slightly better battery life than I do even with minimal use. I'd love to see them bring over more of the Japanese characters either through the app or a future release, but as-is, these are fantastic if you loved the original Tamagotchis! And they're great for newcomers as well. Just watch out for the battery life.

Great tool for teaching responsibility and something for you and the kids to do together.
I bought 3 of these, one for myself, my wife, and my 5 year old and we've had a great time playing with them. You can't really interact with eachother as much as I'd like. For example playing games together, but you can visit and get a lot of neat little things for doing so, build up relationships, marry, and have a new pet from that marriage. I find these can be a great tool to teach responsibility as the first few stages really require a lot of attention and you need to take care of them or they'll get sick, hungry, unhappy, and eventually pass away. Don't worry though it's not a one time use, you can start over again as much as you'd like. The App is definitely a tad disappointing as it looks like it offers so much more than it does. It's really only good for marrying the Japanese only versions of the tama and getting the genes from say hello kitty or the fantasy ones and for items you can't get in the game. I urge you look up tamatown as Theres a wonderful app that someone who visited Japan brought their tama and grabbed all the data they could from the tama kiosks there, brought it back, and made an application for the pc that allows you to make your own character, marry them, give yourself money, and items. You can even add the characters to the parks so that way you still have to work for the marriage and not feel like you're cheating. It's a great app, I encourage you read the instructions though. I found it's helped with my daughter's because she doesn't have to do that daily grind for coins and what have you since she's only 5 And some, not all, of the mini games are a bit challenging. They're simple to learn but hard to really get the max 200 coin each time unless you have a fast thumb or good reflexes. Anyway I recommend this to anyone looking for something fun, entertaining, and light hearted for the family. I drive over the road and it's just added to that pool of stuff to talk about and show when I'm gone. It's truly great! I hope Japan might decide to give us more in the future, the tamas just arnt as popular over here like they use to be and they're still huge over there I mean kiosks?! That's awesome.

Super cute, full unbiased review
Okay I am in my 30s, so I grew up with the Tama gotchi rave. I must say these little devices came a long way from what we use to know. Comparing an old (90s) one that I had you could see very obvious patterns in the scripting. Like every 3 feeds mean poo, every 2 poos mean shots, every feed = 1 play. This a never ending repeating cycle to wrack up points. The design of these are way different as the scripts are seemingly a bit more random generated events. Like you can play your pet to death, and your not forced to feed per game or two. I have noticed the good ol basic medical script seems to still be the samish but with additions, but that is pretty much it, but can be altered by getting them to the bathroom on time. But they also added the chance to get sick when "visiting friends" (other tamas). Which adds to the experience. The basic 3 button controls are the same (select menu, choose, and cancel). But the color is super nice, and the room designs make it feel like there is a little room inside of that little screen. The only real thing I would personally change about it. Is my town/store to my town/mall. Because that is where 2 minigames are. Aside from that I love that you can discover new locations, and the tips are given in game. Like a visit to the park a Tama goes "I always go to restaurants and eat this because it expands my world" or something along those lines. Which is the first tip for the first unlock. The downside is one of them does require a second Tama to unlock (while resetting that 2nd one) to unlock a zone. As you need 2 people to visit, however resetting a second and then inviting the second to the unlock place does unlock it for both. Overall the interactive app you can get on your phone is very cute, and has two games on it including finding friends and dates. Oh and I can't stress this enough, this game has real season themes and weather, snow, rain etc.. holidays, owner birthday recognition, and so much more. I will agree with other reviewers when they say they could of used a better screen, so here is a nice tip. When you get your shipment let it rest to room tempature if it is cold outside, or if it was raining. The plastic keeps the humidity out, and letting it rest will help stop the screen from contracting and expanding due to natural air bubbles built in glass (thin screens are more noticable with this effect, but remember glass is just melted sand). So let it go to room tempature before exposing the actual item and it shouldn't look as bad as some of the others. I did this with 2 of mine, and only 1 micro scratch appeared. About 1mm off to the side. The second one has none. But they do sell screen protector 4packs which might be worth a grab if your interested. Now for the price tag, keep in mind that games overall have gotten smaller, this thing is 2-3x the size of a tamagotchi from the 90s. It contains Bluetooth, etc. If the 60$ tag is a turn off remember those, nintendopets also sold at 60$ and didn't have much of an on the go feature without the system itself- which was another 200$. Because I understand these pointers I marked it as a 4* in value. This is that with no console required. If your still on the fence get one of the cheaper ones. If you don't love it, Amazon does have a 30day. I love mine, and hope you love yours to. These will do better for those that loved them as kids, then today's spoiled youth, "if there is no micro transactions it ain't worth it".

My new favorite Tama
This tamagotchi has so many beautiful and adorable animations. I thought the playthrough was very straight forward and simple which I actually like. Took me about a week to unlock all of the locations besides the sports plaza which needs another meets/on tamagotchi to connect to unlock. I was okay with missing out on this one location but if you are not, buy another On and you can restart it to get it to give you two connects which is what you need to unlock it. Games are fun but very simple and easy as always. I dont mind as I'm an adult and dont have time to play more challenging games lol. Be sure to check out a fan made pc app called mymeets v2. It's a free download that will give you more items and gotchi points to download. I believe these items are from other meets and possibly the mix. Theres also wallpapers, food items and accessories. And even more amazing is the option to create any character you want and marry it with your tama or give you that character through the next egg (I think I'm still a few hours away from testing this out) this allowed me to mix with my favorite character, the mermaid. But I can also make sooo many more characters. This is just so cool. The possibilities are endless on there and it's super easy. Keep in mind you should not use the official tamagotchi on app or marry non adult tama as it might glitch you or other users if they marry your tama. Do your research!! My only con would be that I still think the prices are kinda insane for a game that is completed so quickly especially since they want you to buy two to unlock all locations. The menu and animations can also be a little slow or laggy which I've never seen before. It can be a little annoying but I'm just being greedy I suppose. Overall I loved this tamagotchi and I love that you can mix into so many different characters even without the fan app. Be sure to google guides to get the full experience!

Proud Tama Mama
My tamagotchi arrived in perfect condition, without any of the scratches other reviews mentioned. It's worth noting that you'll need a small screwdriver (not included) to open the back panel and insert batteries (also not included). I used a small Phillips head, but a flat head would probably work better. The game itself is cute and endearing, and there does seem to be a lot of content. My only complaint is that the tamagotchi is a bit loud. Every time you scroll through a menu or make a selection it will beep, on top of the regular beeps reminding you to feed/wash your pet. While there is a mute function, this mutes ALL sound, including the reminders. This is a product with some flaws, but overall it's fun, cute, and a great distraction. It's a bit pricey, but if this sort of thing appeals to you it's well worth the cost of entry.

Absolutely worth it for the price!
I owned several tamagotchis when I was younger (I am now 26 y/o). When I saw the Tamagotchi On, I was hesitant to buy it because of the price. But, now that I have played with my Wonder Garden tamagotchi for a week, I can confidently say it is 100% worth the price. This tamagotchi has SO many more features than the Connection series. Here are my favorite aspects: - tamagotchi On requires a low daily time commitment, which is perfect for anyone with a job - backlit screen so you can easily play at night - size of the tamagotchi is comfortable to hold (the originals are too small in my opinion) - colorful animations - tons of items and accessories for your tamagotchi - your tamagotchi can have its own pet, which can also get married and have pet babies - several different locations to unlock, each with their own shops and games - ability to connect via bluetooth to an iPhone app, where you can play more games and make friends/marry other people's tamagotchis - when your tamagotchi marries, the new tamagotchi baby inherits traits from both of the parents... so you end up with a unique tamagotchi! - keeps track of all your tamagotchi generations through a family tree The only cons that I see: - if you like the original characters, this may not be for you as you will end up with a unique tamagotchi after a few generations - does NOT come with its own AAA batteries or a mini screwdriver, so you have to buy those in advance (and batteries die faster than the original tamagotchis) I showed my Tamagotchi On to a couple of my friends, and they liked it so much that they are also looking into buying one. I am overall very satisfied!

Really love it! But screen is very “scratchable”!!
I absolutely love it!! I used to own a tamagotchi as a child so it feels so nostalgic playing it again except there’s so many more features! I got the pink fairy and magic green, I’ve only played about one day’s worth and everything works great and it’s definitely worth it (in my opinion). When it arrived I was a bit worried that it would have scratches like other people claimed they have and it didn’t have that. It had two very fine micro scratches on the fairy pink tamagotchi but I’m guessing it’s from manufacturing because the packaging was perfect, no dents or damages and the tamagotchi is very secured inside the box and it doesn’t touch anything until you actually take it out yourself. The green Gotchi was perfect no scratches at all. I do have to say that the screen is VERY scratchable! I’ve only had it for a day and it had Soo many fine swirly/straight scratches on the screen kind of like what you would see on a car. So I had to make my own screen protector by buying an iPhone plastic screen protector and just cutting out the same size as the tamagotchi screen and that solved the problem. I just wish they would release the other types of tamagotchi that the Japanese meets has 😊

Love it, but it Needs Some Improvements, but LOVE!
I had the original back in the day and this one is so amazing compared to the original. It's beautiful-I love the sparkle!!! Mine did have some super light scratches on the screen (I got the first batch), but not enough for me to care, and I'm picky, and it didn't affect the quality of the screen when it was turned on. I also bought a screen protector from a different website. I'm also sooo happy that I can leave it at the Tama Hotel or it's Parents (after Gen 1) while I'm at work. It's super low maintenance! The games are meh. They are too easy, but it's how I get money and they are the right length. I wish they got more difficult when my Tama becomes an adult and that I could earn more money. I do hope they expand games with updates. I had to Google how to unlock stuff because the unlocking of lands is not remotely intuitive and there are no directions. I suppose that is part of the fun, but for example, I would never guess or probably even srumble upon the fact that I had to eat the same food five times in a row to change the color, or that I had to do it twice and then go to the yard to unlock the Salon. A couple of things I'd like to see in the future are as follows: *Crisper screen. *More than two games on the app and the games should be more like the Tamagotchi Forever app, which is a MUCH better app. *More challenging games. *More variety in app prizes and events. A month with one character is too long. *Thought it was weird that under the explore my town that I had to go to SHOP to go to game, so maybe make GAME its own thing. *Ability to have more than one pet and/or save parent pet when baby is born. *Better instructions. *Include Batteries/Small Screw Driver/Reset Pin, but better yet, make it rechargable. *Don't have it require to connect with other Tamagotchi's to unlock the Gym because it's pricey and other people, especially adults, may not have anyone to connect with. So yes, I have a list of improvements, but it still gets rated a five star because I love it and it's fun! I'm very happy with my purchase and if you loved the original you will love this one. Also please bring the other Meets to America!!!!
