Near the lake there are no street lights, and a full moon lights the back yard like a huge fluorescent in the sky. Given that the moon is only full about once a month, you need something for those in between times. This light not only throws a great beam of narrowly focused light, the lights on the rear of the unit are great for those following behind. The beam is narrower than some may want, but It is ideal for spotting and identifying what you spot. Getting a retinal reflection is great seeing what those eyes belong to is even better. The flashlight is built really well as all streamlights are. I must confess that while owning several different models of the streamlights i have bought other lights that I consider "throw aways" for the kids to use or to keep in backpacks and the like. This light feels solid and when I purchased i thought the shoulder strap was an option that i didn't need. Reality is that the shoulder strap is great. The strap is constructed so that it almost like a hands free device. the flashlight is not heavy, but somehow the width and stoutness of the strap keeps the flashlight still and you don't get any pendulum action.I haven't put a tape to it, but it on clear land it goes forever , and in the woods the beam is strong enough to go through the trees and still travel the length of a football field. If i could make one improvement to the light it would somehow be a wide angle option with lower intensity. The thing is there are plenty of lights that provide that, this light is similar to having a boat or police spotlight in your hand. It is a great light.

I have a vision loss and require alot of light to see anything. I have a streamlight small tactical flashlight I carry in my pocket or purse, (40.00). Love it, also bought for daughter. These can be used to protect yourself. Recommended by local police. They carry those. Unfortunately I washed and dried it...it still works but not the same. I needed a stronger beam. I had this on my wishlist over a year. It just didn't go down in price. I can say the beam is great. I can locate it in a room because of the color. I really like the back lights. However, I expected this to be weighty, somewhat heavy. I hate to say this but it almost feels cheap. I have not put the strap on it...but the strap and metal lock feel heavier than the flashlight. Again it very bright. I have used quite a bit in a few days. I maybe all wrong, I don't want to lead others away from something good. It's rechargeable, love that. It's LED....It's just not what I thought I would receive for this price. Maybe I would hate it if it were heavy.***May 2013....I totally love this flashlight. It charges fast. It is incredibly Bright. I have ran into door frames with it. Dropped it. All of this is accidental but it is tougher than I first thought. It has taken the punishment and works so well. My family do not like the "tailights" but I do. Because I know where it is. It offers me a locator as to where the end of the flashlight is. I don't know if that will matter to anyone else. It's all in the details when you are almost totally blind. I highly recommend this light. I purchased another streamlight for my bedside. Smaller, I think it is right angle orange flashlight. Not purse sized but great for finding dropped items. Not so heavy as to make it hard to hold. Larger light than the purse sized. I find Streamlight product to be exception. I washed one of in the pocket of a sweater. Went thru washer and dryer and it still works. I enjoy purchasing quality products. Love that I can find these on Amazon.

This is a great light for everyday use in building inspections/engineering due to it's great battery life and brightness. The shoulder strap provides convenient and comfortable carrying and use of light. The weight is minimal for a lantern comparable to a Magcharger or 3d-cell maglight. I have had the light on high-power for several hours at a time without discernible dimming(expected battery life of three hours on high power). the expected battery life on low power is seven hours. I bought this to supplement my Streamlight Ultra Stinger because of its limited burn time of approximately 1 hour (with a brand-new battery).The Fire Vulcan LED has a very focused and bright central spotlight that is approximately 6 inch diameter at 10 feet and 12 to 18 inches at 30 feet. I believe this was intended forcutting through smoke during firefighting operations. This is almost too focused for some use but the light has quite a good spill that provides adequate flood lighting around the spot. This light has is significant range and will easily light up targets had several hundred yards.Overall a great light for someone who uses lights every day

If you are looking for a cheapie flashlight for general use, this might not be for you. If, however, you want a light that is very bright, charges quick and provides rear lighting for safety, this is a must have. We use ours mainly for nightly walks with the dog in an area with no sidewalks. While the light does not have large spill (i.e. it mainly lights it target tightly), it is extremely bright. Furthermore, by simply flipping a switch, the 2 rear LED tail light will either light brightly or flash brightly, making you visible on a dark street. Also note that this light is extremely light weight, making the strap that is included only useful if your hands are full carrying other things. Seems to charge in about 5-6 hours. High quality light that should last a very very long time. The savings on batteries alone make this a good value.

Great purchase light is very bright and light weight I was lucky enough to use the light at a working fire the first day it was delivered and Im very impressed with the way the beam cut thru a descent smoke condition
