It has no competitor, though the sun is a close second
I have had this flash light for a little over two years now. As for a one word description I would off the following: quality. The following are attributes of the Ultra Stinger that have impressed and surprised me. Since the flashlight is rechargeable I have not spent any money on batteries which is wonderful considering the flash light is much brighter than any other flashlight I've ever used. It is one of the lightest weight flashlights I have ever used (no 8-D-cell battery nonsense). The battery will last a little over an hour per full charge. Better yet when the battery is going to die the light doesn't slowly lose luminance and then fade out. It will deliver full power until the battery is used up and then it will dim swiftly, around 30-60 seconds until it will fully be out of battery. More importantly, in two years not once have I had to replace the light bulb, not once have I had to replace the rechargeable battery, and more impressive yet the battery hasn't noticeably lost any charge capacity. Also, the light is still perfectly in focus, even though I've dropped it about a dozen times, which I can not say for any of my Maglites. As for cost, yes it is a more expensive flash light, but in the long run. If you add in the costs of batteries and light bulbs for a Maglite or something equivalent you will probably end up spending around $100(including the flashlight) over 2 years anyways; which is on average what Amazon sells the Ultra Stinger for in the first place.Do yourself a favor, buy the ultra stinger, and you'll not have to worry about a flashlight again. Besides, the Jones' have one.

Our awsome flashlight
Bought this from Amazon in 2005, so we've had it for seven years now. This is an amazing flashlight. It's durable, very bright and focus-able and balances in your hand nicely. We live in the boonies where it's very dark at night (no streetlights or ambient light) and I always feel safer taking this flashlight to light the way. I can light up our whole property for hundreds of yards. It makes finding our black dog easier at night since he wears a reflective collar. We are on our third bulb and everything else is original. We use the AC charger and have wall-mounted the cradle near the back door. My only complaint is that you need to put the flashlight into the cradle/charger correctly otherwise it won't charge. There is a red light on the cradle which lights up when you put the flashlight in the cradle correctly. I never have a problem with this but my wife seems to always put it in wrong. Maybe it's more her fault than the flashlight's but for the sake of my marriage, we will blame the flashlight designers for this minor flaw (why can't she just check for the red light when inserting the flashlight in the cradle like I told her a hundred times?!?!).The lens has some scratches on it but it doesn't seem to affect performance. I think you can get a new lens put on but Streamlight needs to do this. Parts are easy to get for this flashlight which is great because this is built to last a lifetime. I would buy another in a heartbeat if I need one.

This Light is Tough
This light has been my favorite for a long time now. I had recently started working as an office student aid at my local university in the Public Safety department and soon found myself in need of some gear. I set out looking for a very very bright light and stumbled across this bad boy. I purchased this light a little over half a year ago and yet to be disappointed with it. I have dropped this light, banged this light around and even have had this light thrown around before and besides some scratches it is still in great shape! Since I'm not old enough to purchase my own fire arm yet it is definitely nice to have this giant whooping stick holstered on my side. Just simply taking this thing out of the holster in a confrontation has changed the tone of many a drunken college kid. The reach and harshness of the light are both impressive even when compared to LED. Definitely a great buy for any one who wants a little extra from their flashlight. I will be keeping this light on my belt even after I upgrade to an LED simply for the intimidation factor it brings to the table.

Great Household Flashlight
I possess some characteristics of a "flashlight geek". I can't help look at the "flashlight aisle" whenever I'm in a department and electronic store. I always want to see the latest-and-greatest. Well, I was in the market for a rechargeable, durable, reliable, and easy-to-use general household flashlight. Now, not just any flashlight would due. I wanted the "best" for under $100. After looking at Mag's assortment, many other great brand flashlights, and flirting with some of the newer LED flashlights, I chose the Streamlight Ultra Stringer.I wanted a strong beam and this provided it. It is rechargeable and feels well made and durable. I haven't put it through any stress tests, but it has been perfect for providing instant bright light around the home. Yes, it may be slightly overkill for my use...Enough praise, here are my ideas for improving this flashlight ("lantern"):- the bulb cover lens is plastic and seems like it could be made of something a little more scratch resistant. I haven't scratched mine yet, but it feels flimsy when I push in. This could be a positive... I'm not sure. I guess its better than glass shattering on impact.- variable focus on light beam could provide a greater range. Current range almost seems worthless. Maybe I haven't been in the right situations. I know Mag has a much better variable focus on their upper-end flashlights (even their lower-end!).I'll end with a few positives... Its weight feels nice in the hand, the included chargers work as expected, construction is solid, light is extremely bright (to me), and I'd buy it again if I had it to do all over again. (I still keep a nice assortment of LED, cheapies, and one of those "eternal" flashlights around.)

Piece of junk!! Worked well for a very short period. In other words, the light beam was excellent for the short time it worked. The first one I purchased stopped working & I had it replaced thinking it was a fluke, but the second unit failed quickly as well.
