Neat little scope, but. . .
I've owned one of these Dino-Lite scopes for about two years now. The hardware seems to be well made - I've never had any issues with it. However, the software is some of the most 'buggy' that I've ever run across. They update it fairly often, but seem to introduce new bugs every time, the latest being that it wouldn't preserve the photo that I took. That's a new one. Some of the others would give me screen lock-up or program failure. Also, some of the features that I liked and used are no longer available; such as inverse (negative) picture. They did just add bar-coding and it actually works pretty good (the little I tried it).If they ever get their act together and fix the software, I would highly recommend it. It does give a pretty good picture. Otherwise, it only gets three stars from me.

nice microscope and it works with a mac!
I have been hunting around for a USB microscope for some time. I found that there are quite a few based on web cams, some of which claim to be mac compatible. I tried these, and found that they did not work. Then I decided to bite the bullet and get a dino-lite. They too claim that their software works with macs, but the difference is that you can download the software FIRST and see if it even runs. It does.Once I got the camera, I was able to immediately start using it with no problems. The image quality is excellent. It seems to work best with 50X and 200X magnification. The software is not awfully fancy, but all I really wanted from the software was the ability to take pictures. The ability to make annotated measurement images is also a plus. All in all though, the biggest plus is that this is the only USB microscope that I have found that reliably works with a mac.

Great scope, bad software
I recently used this in some textile analysis projects, and it took some great pictures for me. It is also really light and easily portable, which is great. However, the software is really not very intuitive, and pretty buggy. Parts of the program would "freeze" on my computer screen and not go away until I re-started. A few times it did not want to detect the scope, either, until I re-started the program and re-plugged in the scope once or twice. I had downloaded the latest version of this software at the time (June 2013).Also, I don't know why they bother including a disc with this item, the disc has an incredibly outdated version of the software anyway. So overall I was happy with the results, but not with the minor struggles of dealing with the software. If I'm going to pay close to $400 for a piece of equipment, I'd like more functional software with it.
