Really Happy With It
All I can say is WOW! This little wireless door alarm holds it's own! Yes it's very small and the plastic that it's made from is a bit cheap, but the easy way that you can program and arm it, and the loudness of the alarm from such a small cheap little thing is amazing! Even in chime mode it's still pretty loud, and even pushing the buttons to put in your code and arm the thing is loud. As a first line of defense this thing will definitely draw attention. It comes with 2 ways to attach (1) double sided tape or (2) screws. So far for me it was really easy to program my code and set up the alarm, the most important thing is to make sure that you have the alarm lined up with the magnet so that it works properly. Once the alarm is aligned with the receiver magnet, (at least in my case) it works like a dream. The price for this thing was crazy cheap and once you program it you have 30 seconds to open the door and close it before the system arms and a crazy loud alarm goes off. This is a really good first line defense because people will definitely hear it go off, and for the price it's pretty damn good. I'm really happy with it. UPDATE: A year and a half later, this alarm is still going strong. It's still as loud as ever, and I have moved twice since I originally bought this. This alarm still works great, and now I know that peace of mind only costs ten dollars.

Effective and a Great Value for the Price
I bought this pack of alarms a couple months ago when I moved to a new apartment. It was robbed 2 weeks after I moved (through the fire escape window). The crooks stole thousands of dollars worth of things, but most of all, I felt so violated. I live in an older pre-war building in Queens NY, so I wasn't sure if a real alarm system would be cost-effective, plus I not even sure how long I'll be living there (and you need a landline, which I gave up years ago). With that said I purchased this package because I had the freedom to set my own 4 digit code for the door alarm. I thought this would be a good way to scare off any potential intruders if they broke in through the door or fire escape windows. They were easy to set up, the door alarm was easy to set as well. I originally had it set to the "chime" feature, but it was so obnoxiously loud. I knew my neighbors would not be happy with me if they had to hear it every time I came in and out of my apartment. The alarms are very loud as well. My boyfriend "accidentally" tested one of the window alarms one afternoon and it was loud enough for people on many floors to hear. I also like the option to set them on/off/chime so I have the freedom to open an alarmed window while I'm home. I feel a lot more comfortable leaving the apartment for long periods of time now that I have these. Learn from my misfortune! If you live in a city put these on windows that someone may have easy access to. Don't wait until something happens to buy them!

Very Impressed!
I must say, being a cautious buyer when I am venturing into a type of product Ive never owned, it took me a while to decide to purchase this. Now to be honest, I'm glad I did. This alarm system is darn good for the cheap price. I live in a somewhat shady area (saving to buy a house), and needed something for a little security. It comes with one big main door alarm and magnet, and 3 smaller ones for windows and/or doors in the house (not as loud as the main one, but a about half as loud to scare off someone). First I must say, and after reading the other reviews I must agree, the larger alarm component which is meant for the door is shockingly LOUD! And I mean so much that you can feel your eardrums throbbing. It even warns you in the manual that prolonged exposure can cause deafness! (seriously) I am like the reviewer that wanted a quick, cheap, but effective alarm system to scare off an intruder in lieu of nothing. I think this will do the trick. Activation is a cinch, and pretty user friendly. PROS: Cheap LOUD Dependable (except once, it went off when I walked in, scared the crap out of me) Makes me feel safer at night CONS: (after being armed) I would really love to see an adjustable timer for alarm set-off so that when you open your door, a robber doesnt have 30 seconds to snatch and grab stuff. A little beep emits when the door is open, but u cant tell an alarm is about to go off. The main door alarm is too loud for me to set at night. If it went off at night while I was sleeping, it would seriously give me a heart attack. Needs a volume control.

Great for It's Value!
My husband and I are currently building a house. One of our soon-to-be neighbors told us that they saw some random people snooping around the new house at 2:00 a.m. What are the odds that someone at a construction site at 2:00 a.m. has any good intentions? Enter: need for an immediate burglar alarm system. The house is wired for a professional home security system, but we can't activate it yet until more construction is complete. I looked up battery-operated alarm systems and decided to try the GE system kit because of the mostly positive reviews. Overall, I think the system kit will fit most our needs. It's not the fanciest, but it's loud enough to wake up next door neighbors during the night and call attention to our house. I set the door alarm off while testing it out, and my ears were ringing for almost 30 min. As discussed in other reviews, the alarms might not be enough to protect against the more determined burglars, but I think it will ward off most. Plus, when combined with motion-activated floodlights and other defense measures, it becomes just another way to make burglars reconsider their plan. Setting the door alarm code is simple, and installation is easy after reading the instructions. I like the door alarm, but I wish it was not so bulky. The window alarms are not as loud as the door alarm, but they are still pretty loud. After installing the window alarms, I realized that my positioning of them made the "alarm, chime, off" label visible to an outsider looking in. I am probably going to run a black sharpie across the label so it won't look as obvious that it's an alarm, and hopefully the burglar won't go right to it. I have not come across any problems with false alarms yet. Hopefully that won't happen because the alarms are not on a timer and will continue to blare unless deactivated. Also, I live 30 mins away and will not know about any alarms going off unless a neighbor or police call me since the alarms are not tied to a phone system. The alarms are not controlled by a central unit, which makes it a little incovenient since I have to turn off all door/window alarms individually before the construction crew arrives. A little inconvenience, however, is still way better than having stuff stolen or the house vandalized. If you go to Youtube and do a search for "GE Personal Security JascoProducts," there should be a professional video and you can see a demonstration of the window alarm. Also, buying this kit on Amazon is a good value. I decided to buy more of these kits, and I saw either the exact same or almost the same GE kit (it had a door alarm and three window alarms) at Lowe's going for $36/each! UPDATE, November 29, 2011: It's been a few months now, and I've since installed a professional home security system. Overall, I am really happy with the GE alarms. Nobody tried to break in (fortunately), so we didn't have any real tests (no false alarms either!). A few things I noticed: First, one of our door alarms would require a few trys before recognizing the disarm code. Second, as previously mentioned in other reviews, it might be hard to install the door alarm if you have non-flat decorative door trim. The only reason I was able to use the door alarms is because I used the blue painters tape to stick the little door alarm magnet at an angle on the door trim, which made the doors pretty unsightly. You should be ok if you can stick a popsicle stick flat against your door trim at the site of the door magnet; otherwise, you may have get creative or consider not getting this product. I removed all the GE alarms after installing the professional security system, but I plan on keeping some for future use and giving others to family and friends.

Cheap , not the best option for a door alarm . Best use would be as a door chime or an alarm on a low volume door.
I normally don’t write negative reviews but I cannot recommend this item. It is cheap and you get what you pay for. This alarm is not built solid. The buttons on the side are not that secure and can easily break . The alarm itself is very loud however I don’t trust that this thing won’t go off when I am not home for no reason and to the best of my knowledge there is no way to turn it off unless you key in your code , switch the button to chime , take out the batteries or just smash the thing. I tested this and the alarm will go off for about 30 seconds , then stop for 10 seconds and continue in that loop. The home, away , alarm, and chime buttons are on the side on the unit , depending on how you set up the alarm this can make it a pain to switch them on and off because of the space between the alarm and the magnet. Where this thing can be useful is as a door chime , it is reasonably loud and only rings once when the door opens. So in summary if you want a door chime this thing is fine, otherwise don’t waste your money thinking this will be a good door alarm. The major faults being the orientation of the buttons, and that this thing will not shut itself off in alarm mode. There is no way to know by looking at it if this alarm is armed or not and there is no easy way to totally shut it other than the code. Update to my original review. I am using this as an alarm on low volume door on my house. If this unit had an indicator light telling you that the alarm was on off I would give it a decent rating. Easy enough to set, enter code the alarm is on it beeps once , enter the again code it beeps twice and the alarm is off . However by just looking at it there is no way to tell if it is armed or not.

Updates: poor build, but good idea
Definitely a step above the standard trip alarms like the GE Magnetic Indoor Window Alarms. With these you have the option to arm and disarm the siren/alarm when you enter a 4 digit customizable code. It does not have a standard sliding switch that you see on the plain Jane ones(OFF-CHIME-ALARM), but relies exclusively on the code entry. Really well done system. Ad far as I know GE is the only one doing this. Just some suggestions though. Have an ON/OFF switch to turn the whole system OFF, the chime AND the alarm. Accessible externally, Have this switch ONLY work when the code is entered. That way those unauthorised can't simply turn off this device. The reason being is that the chime is EXTREMELY ANNOYING. It also alerts anyone nearby that you have just left the premises and it would be a great opportunity for them. Another reason for the ON/OFF switch is that it's quite hard for me to discern whether the alarms are armed or disarmed. Entering the codes make the same sound either way. This makes getting in and out of the front door a hassle if you got anything in your hands cuz you gotta enter the code going out and entering the code going in. If you forget youre treated with an ear piercing shriek. This device by no means should be restricted for the home. You can use it on bags, camp site security, lift able property(lawn mowers, furniture, propane gear) and so on. That way you can know of trespassers into the camp or if your bags/gear have sprouted legs. UPDATE: 06/20/16 Had it for almost two weeks in an indoor application. It broke. I realized that the device was NOT arming despite a fresh set of AAA alkalines and the switches on the correct settings. Itd sound beeps but wouldn't arm. I also noticed the case is starting to creak. The LED is now slightly raised on one side. Too bad. I really like the idea of this alarm but build is too lightweight. Especially if it's something you have to press buttons on in a daily basis. One STAR. Buyer beware.

GE vs Noopel vs Sabre window alarms
Summary: Noopel & GE recommend, Sabre DON’T recommend. I live in a mixed urban neighborhood and my new apartment has more windows such I shopped for additional alarms to augment the Sabre & GE brands I already had buying first more Sabres, then because the Sabre units performed badly I purchased several Noopel units. I’ll start with Sabre Wireless Home Security Alarm as I have the most of these. I purchased them on the basis of Amazon reviews at two intervals a year apart such I have experience with them. I found them WEAK & VARIABLE. Even on the stronger units the alert isn’t enough to wake me if sleeping, many units have such a weak alarm that I might not hear it in another room with the TV on. Sabre’s weakness prompted me to return to Amazon for an alternative and I bought Noopel Magnetic Entry Sensor as a replacement. BIG difference, these you can hear at a level likely to chase an intruder off and alert the neighbors to turn on their lights. I liked these enough that I repurchased more as Sabre replacements. GE Personal Security Alarm – Earlier I had purchased a pack of GE’s from Amazon and have over a year’s experience with them and would recommend. They still have a loud shriek and would serve their purpose to scare an intruder and wake you to the danger. ON/Off placement. The 3 brands differ in where they locate the on/off switch with Noopel and GE placing theirs on the outside for easy access. Sabre locates their switch on the INSIDE such you must take the battery cover off to access the switch – both awkward and easy to lose your batteries. The Noopel & GE placement is superior in my judgment. Overall I’m disappointed in the Sabre’s I bought. In fairness I tried new batteries and purchased more than one set a full year apart – no volume, no deterrent. Noopel is new and I can’t comment on longevity, but out of the package – they WORK. GE I have long experience and they have both better design & better performance than Sabre.

Very loud alarm !!! Make it remote.
This alarm is high pitched and loud! i like it because once it is tripped you need to put in your 4 number code to unarm it. you can't just close the door to make it stop alarming. also it uses 3 AAA batterys. not those button cells that can be expensive hard to find and not last as long. and i like the price. it has instant on and delay and chime. it is so loud [it sounds like a high priced alarm ] that i would think a intruder would leave thinking it is a wireless company alarm linked to a system and the police may be on their way!!! most new alarms are wireless. you can make this alarm portable so you can move it from room to room, just use velcro to mount it. screws and double sided foam tape are included. make it remote with string. set this alarm close to a door or far away on a chair, shelf or table. tie string to alarm magnet and run string to door handle or whatever you want to protect when it is moved it pulls string and alarm goes off. it gives you a secure feeling knowing that you have something to warn you that if someone breaks in you will be alerted. if you are sleeping the last thing you want is to have someone break in and you are still sound asleep!!!! it's a great alarm that can be used many ways.
