Fun family game
This game is great to play with the family or just two people (we actually like it best with just 2 players). The whole game takes about 30 minutes, whether playing with 2 or 4 people, and it’s so easy to learn. There are some mini expansions/extra rules included to make the game slightly longer or more complex, but our kids like to play just the basic rules for a fast, not too complicated game. Also love that there is no set up and easy clean up. The pieces look nice and seem very nice quality. We buy and try out a LOT of games, most don’t get played more than a few times, but this one became an instant favorite.

Great game that's easy to learn, but still packs a lot of strategy.
We love this game. Love it. Ordered it a couple of weeks ago and have played many times since then. My wife was a bit skeptical at first (before we'd played) but fell in love with it. Likes it more than I do. First things first, it's a fun, quick and relatively easy game to play. The more you play though, the more strategy you figure out. Especially with the included expansion packs in this set. The game itself is made from very nice, high quality material. It feels solid and should stand up to normal wear and tear from gameplay. What we like the most is that it's a fun game even for 2 people. Some nights (or weekends) we just want a quieter night and it's nice to have this as an option for my wife and I. If you've never played before, the concept is simple. You start with all the tiles in a pile. The tiles basically form a map with cities, roads, churches, rivers (if you have the expansion pack) and fields. You pick a tile and place it on the table to expand the map. Players take turns back and forth doing so. As the map gets larger, players figure out how to amass points by placing their tokens all over the board. You can get points for building cities, completing roads, surrounding churches or farming a large area of land. Each time you play the map is different. And point swings can come and go so even though someone is losing big at one time, they can comeback pretty easily and quickly with some big point maneuvers. All in all, a great game for 2 (or up to 5) people. As I said, easy to learn and play, but still takes strategy and you're always learning. A worthwhile addition to any game closet.

Build your empire, one square tile at a time!
Carcassonne has become one of my household's favorite games. We enjoy it so well that we have since purchased a couple of the expansions and have taught quite a few people how to play. If you're on the fence, this is a great way to get into Carcassonne without jumping into it's 10 or so expansions. You get the base game, two mini-expansions, and great meeples. The Good: Artwork on the tiles is great. It looks good, and is easily understood. The included meeples are all painted wood and look fantastic. I'm pretty sure Carcassonne's meeples are actually credited with the now hallmark shape of a "meeple". The game has great table presence, like building an empire on your dinner table! Setup is relatively quick, I feel it plays equally well at 2 players as it does at higher player counts. This version of the game also includes the Abbot & River mini-expansions which I now include every time we play. The Bad: While the cardboard tiles & score track look great, take care when separating them from their cards. Several of mine didn't appear to be pre-cut well enough, and if you're not careful you can tear some of the printing. The Indifferent: Meeple placement & scoring rules can be a bit overwhelming for new players, especially if they are relatively new to modern board games. I recommend, and I believe the instructions do as well, limiting the scoring options for the first couple plays. For instance, we left out the two mini-expansions as well as the "farmer" for the first playthrough. Overall, my wife and I and our 10 year old son love this game, and we have had nothing but great reactions from others we've introduced to it. Now we play with all base rules, the two mini-expansions, and two additional expansions. That is a testament to the playability of this game once you learn how it works.

Great family game!
Such a fun game! It reminds me a bit of Kingomino, with the kingom tile building element. My husband and I played with our kids (9-16 years old) and we all enjoyed it! The box and components are top notch quality as well- which is important to me.

Having got back into board games this year, years after last being into them when our son was young, we've been buying some of the classics that have come about since then. This one is popular and routinely highly recommended. It's a game based around laying tiles to build a continuous connecting landscape and playing your "meeple" playing pieces to claim terrain features and score points. This comes in a nicely designed box with very solid components, made of of cardboard tiles and wooden "meeple" and feels like real quality. It feels like very good value for money. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, with good examples to get you started. We found ourselves getting out heads around it very quickly. It's a very enjoyable game, engaging yet very relaxing. The design is clever, simple yet with a decent amount of complexity within. This has become one of our most popular games, played between myself and my wife and with friends. We love it, this is one I'd recommend to anybody looking to collect modern classic board games.

Great quality! The game is fun and easy to play for even just two players. It also has several built in variations that keep it interesting across multiple plays? A definite must for family game night.
