There is nothing new under the sun
This book reveals that even in the days of Martin Luther, the truth was the same as it is today (big surprise). The translation uses a fairly modern vocabulary, certainly easier to read than a lot of KJV Elizabethan english (if you're not used to it). I found his insights to be enlightening, and often found life application over the ensuing days. And - read it for the 95 theses if nothing else! This relatively brief document remains pivotal in studies of European history, since the church was such a vital part of life in Luther's day, so just for historical reasons, I recommend your reading this initial chapter!

More than what is preached
Aloha, it shows the fire and judgement of Luther...as well as the grace. The book shows sides of Luther that helps me to understand my own feelings of faith, responsibility, commitment, and sacrifice. He preached and taught on suffering, and the trap of not suffering for your faith. Good book for all who are searching for more than what is preached from the pulpit...by a man who suffered for his faith. Aloha

Luther's sermons
the 95 theses are known in concept but rarely convenient to review each one. they reveal Luther I in the details of his mind in the way he subtly criticises error from several angles. Likewise his sermons treat important facets of doctrine and are surprisingly clear and lucid. You may not agree with the doctrine but you will know what it I'd

The Grace and Mercy of Jesus Christ
This book is the definitive source for why and how the protesters of church doctrine were willing and enabled to follow the word of God, as written in the Bible. It details the objections to the works required by the Church as well as the alternative provided by Christ. You might consider this work along the lines of the Declaration of Independence for Christian protesters (Protestants).

Not exactly a job application or appreciation to The Pope and Vatican.
Hey, Luther, you ougha found a religion! I especially liked about 47 onward. The guy had a sense of humor and a sense of right and wrong. The Pope at the time didn't really appreciate this free speech. Read it and see how and why.

Relevant then and now
Great peace of history to read. But relevant to today as well. Helps point back to the gospel in the world of today where God's word is often diluted or abused to fit man's needs or wants.
