don't bother
If you liked Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, just go back and read it again. This 300 page book is basically 200 pages of unrelated filler (mostly involving unrelated small time hoods stealing from each other and weirdly, the history of the formation of the internet) followed by 100 pages adapting the graphic novel (except for the brief prologue and a flashback to the Red Hood/Joker origin, nothing else in the first 200 pages is from The Killing Joke). What happens when you pad a 48-page graphic novel into a 300-page prose novel? Nothing good.

Stick to the Graphic Novel
I was excited for this but it turned into disappointment pretty quickly. There is nothing new here and what is new is either boring filler or takes the source material and adds aspects that ruin what the graphic novel left ambiguous, forcing the reader to come to conclusions that the original novel left up to debate, which, on a personal level, I find takes away from the original story. Anyway, just go buy the graphic novel, you'll enjoy it more.

Disrespectful to the original story
This book is well written but the changes that were made to the narrative art (story), completely change what the intended story is about. Alan Moore wrote a story where the Joker is the protagonist, entitled The Killing Joke. It is very interesting on many levels. It is perhaps the most philosophically interesting Batman story ever told. This story Batgirl (Barbara) is the protagonist, which being interesting on its own is entirely a different story to be told and should not be entitled the killing joke. If they are going to adapt a graphic novel with such huge changes like this then they should give it a new title.

What a let down!!!
I don't usually review books I read, but this one needs it. The book is written well, excellent authors, but horrible content. DC did bad on this one. The first 200 pages, though written well have really nothing to do with the story itself, minus a few tidbits here and there. From ~ pg 209 and on it is The Killing Joke. The first 200 pages are really filler. I am very disappointed in what DC decided to do with what was a very good story, I recommend the graphic novel before picking this one up. Was really excited, but the book is just a let-down.

The Killing Joke
I purchased this book from Amazon to read. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Killing Joke by Christa Faust and Gary Phillips. This is typical Batman/Joker with female characters only being used as pawns in a game to help thugs gain ground. I only even mention that point because some readers feel objectifying women is a no read for them. Other than that it is filled with cool gadgets, awesome machine works, and muscle cars with writing that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Harley Quinn has a small part in this book, Catgirl is mentioned, along with TwoFace, Riddler, Penguin, and other villains. All in all the book was a great comic book read.

What a waste of time and money!!! Avoid at all cost!!!
I was excited to read this book after reading The Court of Owls by Greg Cox (a FAR superior novel compared to this garbage) and my love of the original graphic novel. I was eager to read every new scene expanding on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s groundbreaking work. What I got was a bastardization of someone’s work by a third rate hack! This book is under 300 pages and the actual Killing Joke story we all know and love doesn’t start until page 200!!! My enthusiasm paled with each turn of the page as I endured a lame drug storyline and the creation of the internet. Making it through this drivel took every bit of effort I could muster. Please actually heed my warning and don’t put yourself through the torture of reading this senseless money grab! Stick to the original!!! You’ll be glad you did!

Not much Joker
They briefly cover his origin but then he practically disappears until the final 1/3 of the book. I'm in agreement with the reviews that said there's way too much filler. They tried to make things interesting with sub plots and minor characters but most of it was unnecessary.

Sadly it wasn't as good...
I was excited like everyone else about this book. The cover looks awesome and I am a fan of the comic, but the first 200 pages were borrrrrring. I am giving it a rating of two stars because that last 100 pages were somewhat alright.

Killing Joke
The killing joke is one of my all time favourite Bstman/Joker stories so when this was announced I couldn't wait. Now just finishing it all I can say is at the minute I'm disappointed , I know the original is only 48 pages so I was expecting filler story but for me it was a let down. Hopefully in a couple of weeks once I reread this without my expectations I'll enjoy it more

Unnecessary homophobia
I went into this book with an open mind, I have read the graphic novel so it was the parts that others have described as filler that I was interested in reading. And to be fair it was enjoyable with nods to a few other batman characters, and a continuation of the Harley Quinn character developed in the Mad Love novel. However when I got to page 204 a character is riding on the back of a motorcycle with the Joker it states “he hadn’t wanted to seem weird or gay by clinging to the Jokers waist, so he just clung desperately to the edges of the seat”. This line really soured the whole book for me. The line was not in keeping with the characters personality and did not further any plot point. Very disappointing that it would get printed in 2018.

Better than the Animated movie adaption however...
...the original comic is absolute. Like the animated movie adaption there is a lot of, I guess the right word is, filler before the true prose adaption of Killing Joke begins. THAT is the best, and only, way to experience this classic story. And if you love the comic enough and want to explore a different take on it, then try this book. It written well enough, yet not as good as Mad Love.In saying that, I myself as a mad fan of anything Batman and hardcovers am happy to still have this in my collection, regardless of its few narrative flaws. The cover art is absolutely amazing. I just personally think they should of adapted any other classic Batman story to prose over Killing Joke.Next up on my list: The Court of Owls novel.

A good read
This non graphic version of the killing joke is a little different than the original graphic novel by Alan Moore. But this one is better than I expected. Even though the story gets a little stretched in the middle but nothing too much to get you bored. If you are a batman fan definitely go for it. Also the book was in good condition. Nothing crumpled or faded.

Original
The book is similar to the one showed and it's an original. The paper quality is also good. But if you are looking for a comic book then you would be disappointed because this is a novel. I wanted to buy a comic but by confusion I bought this. But the novel is good too.
