Very nice read with a personal touch
This is a good primer for anyone interested in meta science, i.e., knowledge that goes beyond what you'd get in school It's an easy read, flows nicely and not too deep The author becomes likeable through his sincere approach to the subject and his anecdotes It belongs in the same category as books like "The Secret Life of Plants".

Another angle to see nature and the response of insects and plants
... to often unknown but ever present electro magnetic energy. I’m still skeptical on several issues but I’m going to test paramagnetism response by myself using basalt rock dust on a couple plots.

Must have for gardening!
All I can say is ... GET IT! If you're planning on gardening, this is a must have. In growing a healthy, productive garden, it's essential to understand the soil. The soil to your plants is like food to us. If it's not healthy, it won't produce healthy plants. Then you eat unhealthy plants. It all starts with the soil and this is the original. Simple, direct, concise.

Very good perspective on agriculture
Callahan's own words telling that this is his "most important book" tells much. This was fast read and opened insight to level of reality which we mostly are not aware of. Very good perspective on agriculture, how three things are at the very basis of healthy plant growth and generally at the basis of health of soil; Composting, micro-organisms and paramagnetism. This book covers only paramagnetism, out of those three, and does it very well.

The author, whose credentials are impeccable, describes a view of the natural world that is little discussed in most scientific literature. It made me wonder what other discoveries are largely ignored.

NO practical or useful information
I bought this book because I am a gardener and am always interested in new, possibly useful ways to garden better. I believe in the role of energy and frequencies in enhancing health, so I was hoping to find something useful to add to my knowledge. Unfortunately, there is NONE in this book, in spite of the author believing it will "save the world's agriculture". He has proven through his experiments that energies exist. He has created a $400 meter to measure them (which obviously is much better than the existing $4,000 meters for the average gardener or farmer). He says these energies exist in SOME rocks, particularly volcanic ones, but that they vary significantly based on the origin of the rock, so you can't just buy granite dust or Azomite or whatever and put it on your garden and expect results. He says that 60-70% of the world's agricultural land is deficient in this energy, which is required to release the nutrients in the soil. But most of the book is about how he discovered and measures these energies, pretty much Greek if you don't understand radio waves, etc. I kept waiting for his conclusions or recipe or recommendations about how to use this information, but it never came.I think Dr. Callahan is/was a fascinating person and that he probably made a major contribution by trying to reconnect chemistry, physics and biology as they relate to agriculture. But as a gardener, I found this book to be totally useless.

great book by a brilliant man
If you have never read Philip Callahan you are missing out on the most brilliant insight of earth and insects availabke. Phip Callahan is the modern day Thomas Edison. Also, read his book, Tuning into Nature. It will change the way you view your world.

Better than expected
Better than expected. Callahan provides an easy read. It is an honor to read this book and more importantly his book Ancient Mysteries, Modern Visions. I have conducted a few of my own experiments and have verified his findingIf you naturally have an enjoyment of plants, watching how things grow. This is a good book telling you whyLoaded with references and another worksWell done!

Five Stars
I have now received and read "Paramagnetism".I find it a great book for prompting ideas in my head.I hope to do some experimenting with paramagnetism in relation to the soil and to plants. I also hope to repeat Philip Callahan's experimentswith model sandstone towers and radishes. If my experiments prove useful I shall try larger scale experiments.I am also experimenting with a PICRAM meter, but I am having to weave my own cloth of raw wool and jute, because I can't find any on the internet. The quoted patent number has given me a start.

Not for they lay person, in my opinion... I didn't understand much... probably great for people who already have a technical background in the topic... I was hoping for guidelines for a practical application of the information.
