For a Moccamaster brewer and makes a great cup of coffee
Excellent Companion to your Moccamaster coffee brewer First, this is not a universal coffee grinder, it is really designed for use with a Moccamaster drip brewer. There is no reason to think it wouldn't work with other drip coffee makers but be aware it isn't adjustable. Would it work with an espresso make? No. A French Press, maybe, I am not sure. I don't have any of those I have a Moccamaster brewer and this grinder works very well, Compared to some of the home burr grinders I have used (gone through) this machine is quieter fast and more efficient. Perfect? No. Cleaning is OK but not easy. Why five stars? It works well and makes a great cup of coffee. I have gone through a Breville and a Cuisinart burr grinder and while theoretically, a burr grinder is better I don't find that to be the case with the Moccamaster. Gravity drops the beans through the blades so they make one pass through the grinding process so they are not like the old little blade grinders you may be thinking of. You get a consistent grind optimized for a drip coffee maker, which is what I have It may take you a while to get just the right amount ground. I fill the hopper and it takes about 20-25 seconds to grind a batch of beans, you have to experiment but you'll get the hang of it in a short time. It looks good next to me brewer, works well and combining the grinder and the coffee maker I get a great cup(s) of coffee. It comes with a 5-year warranty and is pretty foolproof. I am glad I purchased one

Good, but sorely lacking in features (i.e. there aren't any).
This is a nice machine. However, I have no control over the grind. I understand the product tells me how well it's rated, by multiple international coffee authorities... but that doesn't mean it always makes a great cup, regardless of bean or roast, or other mitigating circumstances that can dramatically affect how well a cup of coffee tastes. For the most part, the coffee grind is OK. But it can be annoying when I want a different style cup of coffee. I also bought the TechniVorm Moccamaster Coffee Maker. This grinder lists its color as the same Polished Silver finish. However, it DOES NOT! This grinder has a brushed finish - while the coffee maker has a smooth polished finish - even though both claim to be "Polished Silver." Ultimately, they don't match. A big problem... for $600 total in coffee brewing equipment.

Why the the problems?
I do not understand why some people don’t like this grinder. It grinds fairly quietly, very quickly, perfect grind for a drip machine and looks cool. People saying they can’t pour out the grounds without a mess....it comes with a measuring scoop. It isn’t meant to be poured. People can’t put the container back on....it takes a minute to get the feel of the threading, so what? Once you do you can put it on for the rest of your life without thought. Mess? Stuff flying around everywhere? What the heck are people doing with this grinder? Static and sticking to the sides? Ummmmmmmm give me a grinder that the fine particles don’t stick with static. Leave it in the container, it doesn’t hurt anything and just wash it out and dry it every so often as you want. I think I addressed most people’s dumb issues. It’s a worker horse that looks cool to boot. Buy it without hesitation!

Lifespan is about a year
I splurged on this a year ago and I should of stuck with my small $20 coffee bean grinder. Yes it is messy, which I can deal with. Yes you have to brush down the grounds frequently. But my main issue is after a year the motor goes but doesn't actively grind the beans unless I shake and shimmy the machine. Then I have to stop grinding and move the beans around with a knife and then grind and shimmy it some more. Back to my $20 grinder..

Nice grinder. Broken scoop.
Nice grinder. Deducted a star for a minor quibble: the scoop it came with was broken when it got here. Pic attached. No damage to the box so doubtful it happened during shipping. If someone at Technivorm is reading this, send me a new one? I’m not about to return the whole grinder because of it, but at this price I think I deserve an unbroken accessory.

Long life 4 + years Moccamaster coffee maker and grinder paired
This coffee maker and blade grinder are still working like brand new, multiple pots a day and blade grinder works just like day one . Hardest part is finding a consistently good roast to use in this awesome machine. Coffee drinker raised on The great George Howell‘s coffee shop in Cambridge Ma. The Coffee Connection, first as a consumer In 1977 then employee for years. Wist I’d taken up the offer to be a trained coffee roaster for him. But alas at 23 there were to many other distractions. lol

High quality grinder
Previous to purchasing this grinder I daily used an adjustable Bosch burr grinder for over 20 years - Bosch doesn't make coffee grinders anymore but it provided excellent service for all of that time. Now, after having ground through several pounds of various coffee beans with the Moccamaster grinder I have to say that I admire and enjoy using this grinder. I find it easy to use, and it has produced very consistent ground coffee for brewing in my Moccamaster coffee maker. Yes there are some quirks about it that need to be accommodated (such as learning to replace the ground coffee receptacle without fidgeting with it), but these are easy things to accommodate for a machine that works so beautifully. In addition to producing perfectly ground coffee for use in my Moccamaster maker, I have found it perfectly suitable for use in my stove-top Bialetti coffee maker and the inexpensive drip coffee maker I have in my office.

So, I feel like I must be missing something with this grinder. I read the reviews and watched some videos and decided to purchase, but it wasn't until I received it and took it out of the box that I realized that is really just a big blade grinder. It is fairly quiet but, as others have noted, it makes a big mess. Really, after this many years of making products Moccamaster should have solved some basic problems with this grinder. Firstly, the top lid does not fit tightly causing small bean particles to leak out and build up on the outside of the housing (particularly the ridge where the power button is located); why not make it snug? Second, there is a plastic housing protecting the motor inside the grinder where you place the beans; during grinding, the FLAT plastic housing collects a lot of whole or partially ground beans-- why not make it cone shaped so the particles fall back down? Thirdly, I get why they have employed the use of the mesh screen at the bottom of the grind chamber, but it builds up fine particles and needs to be cleaned regularly. Fourthly, the collection container is just acrylic plastic and is basically sand blasted by the grounds as they exit the grinder. The grounds rotate at high velocity and very fine particulate sticks to the sides of the collection container meaning that you have to use a paper towel or your finger to remove all the grounds from the inside of the container. They do supply a very small brush but it is not adequate. I don't understand why the grinder needs to be so big. It is top heavy and seems inconsistent with the choices they made for material thickness and quality. The motor housing is a very nice aluminum tube, but the base of the grinder is quite thin with no reinforcement beneath. There is a large metal plate that attaches the base to the grind chamber but the collection container is just thin acrylic with a difficult to re-install jar type lip. Overall, it does produce an adequate grind but there is a lot of very fine particulate created as well. It needs a lot of cleaning to keep it nice looking and it demands a lot of space on your kitchen counter. I do appreciate that the grinder is entirely made in Europe from European parts, perhaps this accounts for some of the high price. My hope is that it will last for many years; perhaps this is the key difference -- only time will tell.

I would give this 5 stars if the price didn't make it unpalatable for most people. Over the past 4 years I have gone through 2 coffee grinders in the 80-100$ range, so I figured I would buy this top end grinder for the home gamer and see if the extra money makes it that much more sturdy/ worth the investment. I am 2 months into ownership so I can't speak to its longevity but it looks and feels really well made, it grinds the beans to the perfect size / shape to be used with your coffee machine, it doesn't burn the beans in the grinding process. So far So good, if it catastrophically fails in the next 2 years I'll pop back and peg this down.

This thing is quiet for a coffee grinder. I was worried I’d wake my peeps up but once it starts spinning it grinds pretty quietly The hopper is extruded aluminum. So that’s the colour you get. Corrosion resistant. Glad I spent my money on better quality than most appliances and it helped to support a quality of life in the Netherlands similar to Canada. I wish more people would think about where their money goes when they buy stuff. If you want jobs, you need to buy as local as you can.
