Great extension especially for Car Stereos with rear USB
So I installed a KENWOOD DDX57S into my 02' Ford Ranger. This stereo had a rear USB female connector on a 12" cord for Android Auto. So I could have it sticking out somewhere loose but that just looks ugly and lets face it, the cable isn't that long anyways.I opted to buy this flush mount extension cable and am so glad I did! I drilled a small rectangle shaped hole in my dash near the radio and fished the cable through the hole and clipped the female end into place. I Then connected the male end to my female connector inside the dash and taped them together so they cant come loose prompting me to remove the radio just to reconnect them. I installed the radio and housing and now I have a clean beautiful professional looking install. This extension cable works great! I cannot speak about the charging capability of this extension cable as my Radio output is only 5v 1a. However the data transfer is excellent as I use this for Android Auto so it uses my phones GPS and I also can mirror my phone on my radio, make and receive calls, texts or put on Pandora or other things. This extension cable makes it all possible while looking professional.

Worked perfectly fine
I read the reviews, and the concerns, and I tried it anyway. I've had no problems with it. Seems durable enough, transfers data just fine. Assuming we're talking about a cell phone or a thumb drive full of music. Which is all I'm using it for. My only suggestion is be careful cutting the hole. Make it smaller than the flange and slightly larger than the body where the clips are going to hold it in place. Start small and file your way larger as you go until it snaps in. Somewhere sturdy and you'll be fine.

The product was exactly as shown
I installed this USB port into the dashboard of my 2012 Chevy Colorado. I replaced the stereo head unit but the USB port was a connection that came out the rear of the new unit and was out on the floor, you needed two hands to connect anything to it, now I can do it with one hand. It does take some patience to make the opening for it in the dash board

good price
this can fit in tighter places, when the round USB's don't fit. only thing is that it is harder to make a square hole for it to fit right.

Not Really USB 3.0
I use this on my aftermarket Kenwood stereo, for a solid connection to use my Android Auto. When connected, it charges my phone at 500mA or less. (I looked once and it was at 17mA) 1,000mA = 1AThat translates to 1/2 an amp. It should be, potentially, capable of being six times faster. My stereo output is 1.5 amps to charge. That would be 1,500mA.When I connect my phone straight to the stereo's usb it is putting out 1,100-900mA on the regular. So using this extension is nice but not worth it. It's barely charging my phone while being used.Other than that it works as I had hoped. However I do need it to charge at a faster rate.

Used to upgrade car stereo with usb port on back.
I figured since most cars now are either usb c or usb 3.1. For most charging power that i would be best to have usb 3.1 as an extension for unit to use with replacement radio in car with new kenwood head unit. It has a short USB cable, which i knew would be too short, to use extension cable with it. I figured worst case i would have to Dremel the opening for cable to fit in. I remove an opening in car with old usb 2.0 connection to use with this 3.1 version. Surprised that once i ran cable thru it i only needed to press it in to lock in place plus it fits inward enough and easy to access with smart phone. Since radio uses apple car play and android to use with mapping program, cable keeps up so far and should last since cable never has to be moved within wiring setup in dash. May block off old usb 2.0 port since it never had enough output to even charge old ipod 3 from years ago.
