Finally a (very good) inverter portable AC in the UK
Find an inverter portable AC in the UK is almost impossible, even more difficult than finding a flat with HVAC. I already have a conventional portable AC and did had an older one in the past. Both suffer from a large list of the same problems, unbearable noise, extremely high energy consumption, bad hose design (ALL portable AC have these) etc. This Bosch is expensive, even with discount. It is bulky and heavy, don’t have a double hose to better efficiency too, nor does have smart functionalities. However it is very close to perfect that a portable AC can be. It does have a robust construction and clever design that allows you more flexibility to fit the hose. Interesting “smart” settings, good illuminated remote and a clean, well thought design. The performance is pretty great, the compressor works well in response of the demand, and it is silent as can be. It does have a good airflow, cooling very quickly using more power and then reducing it for a nice steady cooling.

Very cool ;)
I think some reviewers here are confused about this portable air con, it should not be brought for a dehumidifier (there are much cheaper and better options) and its not a fan to blow cold air on you. This will cool your entire room provided you put the tube out of the window and close the windows and doors.I love the features and the automatically opening panel, the quiet setting will not have much impact unless you turn the temp to a reasonable setting and I don't think that's what most will buy this unit for. It's much quieter than others I have used even though it's still quite noisy as you might expect from what is basically a fridge with an industrial fan slapped on it. Notably the loud starting noise of many air cons is diminished, but you will still notice it activating more of a build up rather than a sudden loud noise.

Good and pretty quiet, but not perfect
Upon receiving the Bosch Cool 5000, unpacking and setting the AC up was very easy. It was very well packaged, but nonetheless very easy to unpack as the top section of the box lifted right up, revealing the AC unit. It is quite heavy though, so don't expect to carry it up and downstairs frequently.Use of the unit was very easy and intuitive - both the buttons on the unit itself and on the remote are self explanatory and simple. When using the AC it also doesn't require excess water to be drained as it self-evaporates it through the exhaust. It only has to be drained when it is used in the dehumidifier mode. Very nice indeed! The Bosch Cool 5000's performance was very good as well - it effectively cooled down the bedroom with ease, and quickly. I also noticed that the amount of hot air being blown out of the exhaust hose is considerably less than my old AC unit, which also helps creating less of a vacuum in the room causing less hot air being drawn inside the room from outside. It also is much quieter than a non-inverter AC - instead of hearing a loud "clack" when the AC turns on followed by the compressor hum, it does it in a much quieter way with a relatively quiet whirring sound of an electromotor to kickstart the AC system into action. Once started, you can barely hear any noise caused by the AC system itself and you can basically only hear the fans blowing refreshing, cool air. Especially when set to the "silent" mode, the fans blow at their minimum speed and it is indeed very, very quiet. There is unfortunately only one drawback, which is that the inverter produces a high-pitched coil whine noise. It isn't loud, but it can be heard if you have sensitive hearing. I suspect that older people will not be able to hear it, but I unfortunately can. It may be that the unit I received had more of it than usual, but the manual also says that a high-pitched sound may occur in this model. I did get more used to the high-pitched sound it emitted, but it still annoyed me and as I purchased the Bosch Cool 5000 with the primary goal to have a quiet AC for the bedroom so I can sleep while it cools the room, this was a dealbreaker for me and I had to return it.All in all the Bosch Cool 5000 is a great AC unit which is much quieter than any non-inverter AC unit. It would work brilliantly in any other situation, but unfortunately not in my quiet bedroom. If Bosch can fix the high-pitched sound, it would absolutely get my full 5-star review, but until then it only gets 4 stars.

Actually “Quiet at last”!
TL;DR it’s great.- Great design- Quiet (as long as you’re aware it will have a compressor hum like a slightly louder dehumidifier)- Compact (upward hose)If you’re in the market for a portable A/C and can’t get it fitted (which is best… trust me) THIS is the one you want.No other portable A/C in the UK is inverter based (which means it only works as hard as it needs to).Cooled my 5m x 3m living area within an hour with the door open for the cool air to spread. All portable A/Cs have a noise but this is by far the best, you can actually watch TV without turning it up. No other on the market will be this quiet. I’ve had 4 others now.Only thing we need now is an inverter one with a dual hose for higher efficiency! Well done Bosch for finally bringing us into the 21st century.

UNABLE TO REGISTER
I have purchased a number of Bosch items over the years, and have always been able to register them for the extended warrantee. There has always been a registration card with the appliance, but this time no registration document. In this case no Bosch online registration system, I have found, recognised the unit. I have telephone all the Bosch call centres, I can find, and no one can register a Bosch Cool 2000 portable Air Contioning unit.I contacted the seller and all they could give me was German telephone number or Bosch web page with no address. This is good unit but Bosch lack of support is letting them down.
