Does this contain plastic?

It is plastic with chromium colour. I am using them for the last 7 years and I have changed 2 in total and now I am using the 3rd. With overuse it last usually 3 years. You will se colour start leaving after couple of years. The tastier water ever.

Do you have to secure with tape?

No. You just put on attached faucet fitting and mount filter.

Does this only go on the type of tap shown in picture

It comes with several different adapters so that it should fit over your tap as well. I found it to be very easy and after using it for a few months, I am VERY satisfied with Pur.
