Retro Xmas Tree String Lights, 18 Foot Long, 20 Light Plug-in Indoor Christmas Lights - Multicolor Strand with Snowflake/Crown of Thorns Shaped Bulbs, Replacement Bulbs Included

So, I just learned that when you wind a 18-foot strand of lights around a tree, you don't get very far, or very much light.The lights are cute, and their retro plastic covers remind me of the Christmas lights when I was a kid, ages ago. They are basically just a regular strand of multi-colored incandescent Christmas lights, except that each bulb has a clear colored removable plastic cover. The effect of these plastic covers is to enlarge the visible area of each bulb.The colored light from naked bulbs (with no covers) simply dissipates into the air, or reflects off of tree needles and ornaments. Because the light is not very contained, naked bulbs make the entire tree look brighter, but each bulb looks small. The plastic cover is designed with many edges to reflect the colored light from the bulbs. This refraction makes the colored light from each bulb look about six times larger, as if the tree has larger lights. However, because these plastic covers tend to absorb and deflect most of the bulb's light, there is less light to reflect off of the tree's needles and ornaments. The effect is that they will make the tree dimmer, although each point of light will be much larger.This is a real retro thing. Back when I was a kid, there was no such thing as these strings of naked incandescent bulbs. Each bulb wore some type of decorative outfit. Also, these lights come in the "original" colors, with none of those new colors like deep purple, that are becoming more common. And I confess, the overall effect of these lights vs others is rather minimal in a dark room with the tree lit. Still, it's nice to have the option.The string of lights came all folded AND twisted, and the lights need to be painstakingly unrolled and untwisted, and straightened out. In this process, some of the plastic covers may fall off, which is fine. You can simply put them back on when you're done stringing the lights.

Just arrived today, crammed into a small box, four outer plastic covering pieces were broken, three I was able to place back on but completely missing one of the plastic coverings. Chinsy and small for $ paid I thought I was receiving a strand of lights :(

Connecting the lights were no problem. Easily packaged and removed. However, the pieces (little attachments that resemble flowers?) come off easily and my cats had a field day with those lights! Most importantly, this could be a choking hazard to children and/or pets. Please be aware and be careful.Otherwise, no issues or concerns. All worked well; all lights worked, and none were damaged; additional lights were included - overall satisfied! NOTE: The string of lights is not very long; these would be appropriate for a smaller tree (table tree or similar) or to add as decorations around your home. This is in the description, but I thought I would mention just in case.4.5/5 - I give a 4.5 because of the choking hazard. While this may have been mentioned in the description, I was not aware my cats could remove them and do "cat things" with them.

Light is dull. Couples of the bulbs died in less than a month

The lights shined brightly with pretty colors but the plastic pieces that fit over the bulbs to create the vintage look did not stay on. They kept falling off and several were lost the first day. I was a bit disappointed. The lights themselves held up to one Christmas season so far. The string is short so it would work for a table top tree or you would need to purchase multiple sets. I could have gotten a bad batch, but I cannot reccomend this product

I absolutely adore this light string! It is the most unique light string that I have, and I love how it looks when lit. The lights are strong, bright and great colors. The shape of the bulb adds a unique test and the way the bulbs shine is absolutely fantastic! I love how different they look, yet still traditional. I really recommend these lights, and I am planning on getting more to connect them with for the next holiday season.

I filed for return but ended up keeping them. Took me 5 tries to get them to work. The fifth try was after I filed. Bulb covers were missing. For the life of me I Don't know what I did to make them work.
