Will it work for a electric bass guitar

It depends on the working voltage range, these batteries output around 90% of their capacity from about 7.8V to 7.1V. An alkaline 9V battery will output it's capacity over 9.6 to 5V. If your device has a minimum voltage cutoff that is 7.1V or lower, then these batteries will provide their full capacity to running the device. On the other hand, if the device cuts out at something like 7.5V then these batteries will be a bad choice since you will effectively be unable to use half of its stored energy. For devices that don't list their minimum operating voltage, the only way to find out is to use an adjustable DC power supply and connect it to the battery terminals of the device you want to run, and then gradually reduce the voltage until the device shuts off. If it stays running even at 7V then you can be confident that these batteries will work fine. If a device cuts out at a higher voltage such as 7.5, then you will either need to use a rechargeable 9V battery that uses a boost converter, as those will output a regulated 9V from a full charge, until the battery is dead. The only issue is those types of batteries use PWM to generate a 9V output, and that line ripple will result in noise on audio devices such as guitars, mics and other similar devices. Boost converter batteries also have a higher self discharge rate, often lasting around 6 months to a year since the boost converter runs 24/7. PS, if a li-ion battery falls below it's minimum cell voltage, it will rapidly degrade. For example a 3.7V li-ion battery can de drained down to 2.7V, but at 2.5V the cell will begin to degrade quickly, and at around 1.8V it will start to swell (they will also swell at higher voltages, e.g., some that are fully charged at 4.2V, may start to swell at 4.4V).

Will this unit discharge 9 volt batteries before charging them (refresh)?

EBL does not specify that it discharges the batteries before recharging them. From my experience in using this charger I would have to say it does not. It appears that if the battery(s) are good but in a low state of charge then EBL uses the current state of charge and recharges the batteries from there.

I have used these in my tens unit without a problem. This may be a stupid question, but I have to ask. Are you using Li-ion In a Li-ion battery charger?

Can you use other brands and mah lithium with this unit(i.e. 850mah vs 600mah)?

Since it charges based on an initial charge based on constant current, up until around 60% before switching to constant voltage at 8.44V (measured in my unit), it should work with any 9V rechargeable battery that uses a direct to cell connection (meaning no boost or buck converters). If your batteries have a micro USB or USB-C connector on the side of each individual battery, then do not use it in a charger like this.
