Q: What size needle does this thread need?

Tex 135 or #138 (is the same but with different measurement Methods) use on leather 23/160 needles. Use #23 needles. If you use #277 (Tex 270) thread normal needle size is #25 aka 25/200. This info told me the manufacturer and I myself have tested this and it's the correct info.

You mean like two ends tied together or just a random knot? A random knot, no. Once in a great while I would get spool where two ends were tied together to complete the spool. But that has only happened once to me personally. Usually it is just one continuous length of thread.
