Great product. Amazing customer service!
The shelf is exactly as expected. Great quality. What’s more impressive is the customer service. I had an assembly question and called the number on the package insert. An actual human being answered. She was attentive and friendly and was quickly able to help. I thought this kind of customer service was dead, as I so often get stuck in circular automated phone systems. I wish I could buy everything from this small business. Truly impressed!

OK purchase but know it is delicate
Update:Go ahead and buy this unit. Just understand the quality and only attempt something that stresses it once all boards are fully assembled on a horizontal surface and screwed in. I should have known something was up when the package showed up marked as Fragile! :)I changed this review from 1 to 5 because the customer service people at Whitmor are actual humans who want to give the customer a good experience. They were understanding of my situation in this exact case and also that the instructions didn't make it clear that the thing needs to make it past step 6 (screws in the side boards) before it can be moved. In this instance, I didn't have enough space and had to move it before the critical "screws" step. The dowels are apparently just there to somewhat hold things in place till the screws anchor it all Only the vertical side boards (same material) are intended to take the distributed weight of the unit. Every force must only be straight down. For example, even with it glued, there is no chance of it withstanding a lateral force. In the end, we agreed both parties could have done better. They let me keep the somewhat mangled one and sent me a new one. I can use them for light weight storage where they won't be bumped by anything.I'm happy with the compromise.------------Original:—--------The panel board needs to be much thicker and higher quality. The unit barely stands up to its own weight. The dowels provided are too short and not large enough in diameter for the task. However, the holes drilled are large enough such that there is wobble and only about 2-3mm of particle board supporting the dowels. Also, the particle board looks more like a sponge than wood.To top that off, it seems the varying position of the pre-drilled holes side-to-side on the panel boards also applies to the angle the holes are drilled. It seems they used the hole to dowel size difference to handle the horrible drilling tolerances. The unit collapsed, breaking nearly every dowel, the first time I tried to move it to put the “top” on. Re-drilling holes, and using glue to fix all the places the dowels broke through the panel boards is a nightmare. If this shelf ever gets together, it will be a slanted eyesore that can only hold about 1lb per “box”.I never expect Whitmor to be great quality, but they do tend to make it to the assembled state before falling apart.

It's more stable on its side. It's big enough for my large craft supply cubes.
I put mine on the side because of the terrible design. I've put a few of these together from different companies. The way they have it, you screw the sides over into the top, which lets it completely sway back and forth until you put the backs on. This tiny pins and paper backings arr not sturdy. When you put it on its side and screw the top down into the sides, it's way more stable. I took away a star for the poor design. I should have taken away another for only sending me half of the backs. I don't think they're stable enough to hold the weight unless you put it on its side.

Good for the price
Easy to put together, and pretty solid shelves. We are using it for board game storage and it works well.

Low cost
Low cost ... instructions are good and MUST be followed, or you will regret it.

Warning! Not recommended by a longshot. Here's why...
Where to begin. First of all the advertising for this product is extremely misleading. These are NOT easy to put together and the most frustrating "construction" project I've ever had to deal with. The instructions are not at all clear. I ended up hurting my hands (repeatedly) working on struggling to put this together. Then, when I had one piece locked into place another would pop off. Also, be aware that if you want to make a different configuration, say 2 sets of 3 or 3 sets of 2, you will NOT have enough connectors. You only are supplied with the amount of connectors for the 6. If you look at the diagram you'll see that connectors are shared between cubes. Here's the punchline: if you want to get more connectors these are IMPOSSIBLE to find. Try looking it up. "Whitmor Grid Connector". I found 1 package for sale on Ebay for 50.00!!!!! saying they are "rare" and hard to find. Sure there are generic connectors but when you read the feedback you'll see people are struggling to make them fit. What???? How can they sell something without replacement parts? Are you expected to buy a whole new unit to just get the connectors? Thumbs down to that.Again, these are NOT easy to assemble. Very tricky and awkward. And why would you need twist ties to secure these? I'll tell you why. Because the panels can come loose after you've struggled to secure them and spent hours, NOT "30 minutes" as the bogus instructions say. Without tools? Umm. I suggest a light hammer to try to get the stupid grid connectors to push down into the wire, that's IF you even decide to buy this at all.Whitmor does a much better job with the tall shelf they make (you can buy here). So easy to put together and no guess work. No struggle at all. Just stay away from these frustrating cubes. As an aside I saw a youtube video with someone putting these together (the promotional video Whitmor displays with the product is bogus. You know the one where the guy in no time with no tools and no struggle puts a wall of these up? DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!) so the video on youtube as I was saying shows a woman putting one of these together and I should have taken her huffing and puffing more seriously. These take a significant amount of strength. If you suffer from arthritis, or any other issues that make trying to figure out a difficult connection, stay away from this product. You'll be so frustrated you'll be ready to toss your wire grid panels across the room chanting out a few choice expletive deletes as you do so.
