This mat is a must if you have a fridge on hard floors. My husband bought this for a dorm-size fridge in my home office that has old laminate flooring. The mat works as a bit of a sound barrier and helps with vibrations as the fridge cycles. One time the door didn't close all the way and ice started to melt. The mat saved my floor from getting wet and possibly warping. Don't get me wrong, my floor is ugly and I'd love to replace it, just not right now. If you get your college kid a dorm size fridge, don't forget the mat.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:Perfect fit! I have it under a Honeywell 115 can beverage fridge. Leave the mat out for a few hours to soften up and take shape. Also helps to have someone help lift and lower the fridge onto the mat, as you won’t be able to slide it on top of it.

Perfect fit for a mini fridge and adds a level of support in the event of leakage. Highly recommend.

4 stars may be generous as I dont know if it will actually work or not in an emergency situation. It is soft silicone so sliding it by tilting your fridge back & forth to get it underneath is impossible. You have to have an appliance that is small / light enough for you to physically man-handle it onto the tray and into the desired location. I put it underneath a small reefer in a tight corner of my carpeted office. That was not easy to accomplish. Additionally, the lip of the silicone tray has to be short enough for the reefer door to open and close; therefore it is a very short lip (limited water collection area?) I dont think I would trust it underneath any sort of freezer.
