Enterprise class, solid, reliable, cheap storage. I bought 6. 4 of the drives are in a 24/7 freenas server with ZFS and Z2 (two drive failure) tolerance. After 4months off testing no problems, no failures, no worries. No resilver events. Yeah I’m paranoid I bought 2 backup drives just in case. My son swiped the two extra drives for his gaming rig, and I’m not worried at all.

My drive came adequately packaged in an anti-static packaging and bubble wrap, a corrugated cardboard box, and then another layer of bubble wrap in an USPS envelope. Search "backblaze 2017 review" for highly credible reliability stats from Backblaze.Pros:The 3TB HGST (Hitachi Global Storage Technologies now owned by Western Digital) looks and operates like a new hard drive-very quiet and cool running like all my other 5k drives by multiple manufacturers (WD, Seagate, and HGST). I put my drive through two days of testing by filling it up, and then rewriting and testing the data. The drive also came with a cardboard card that the drive is a "Certified Refurbished on Amazon," and has a 1-year warranty. The card also explains how to contact the seller along with other relevant (and very helpful) information--very professional, and well done.Con:The only con is the drive's S.M.A.R.T. stats; they have been changed, and don't provide good information. Aside from the S.M.A.R.T. stats, I really like the drive.P.S.This drive is no longer supported by HGST; you may find it difficult to find software utilities for this drive. The warranty is provide by the reseller, and not by HGST or Western Digital.If there is any change in the behavior of the drive, I will update this review.

Bought 4, one was DOA - was promptly replaced. Now using in a 4-bay USB enclosure with Windows 10 Storage Spaces. No issues for almost 9 months so far.EDIT - one drive dropped out of my SS array, and a test of the individual drive showed bad sectors. Am contacting the seller about the potential for another replacement.

Drives are quiet and cool, good for drive docks for a third layer of backup or unimportant things.Server drives tend to be well cared for, low power cycles, but long run times, the smart is wiped so its not easy to see the records, there are other programs out there that can dig deeper though.Price per GB is well worth it.

Bought two with a hope to RAID em. One initialized and could only format to 1.8tb. The other initialized and could only format to 800gb. Markings all the same claiming 3tb. Used same settings, went GPT and used windows to initialize. Too good to be true. One was very noisy like rollerskates.

Bought 2 for a raid 1 array in my home nas. So far so good.Knocked off a star because I wrote an earlier review pointing out that these drives are unformatted nas drives that do not show up in file managers until you system level format. Multiple bad reviews/returns seem related to this.That review, even after getting a thank you for reveiwing email,never got posted?Ok guys,,none of my business.
