Does the filter need replacing after a while?

I finally had to buy replacement filters but the E0106 is not available ANYWHERE. So I purchased the filters that fit the NEU180 and trimmed about 1/2" around the edges to fit this cleaner. It works perfectly. Major improvement in suction.

What other cleaning solutions besides Eureka's can I use? Does it void the warranty if other solution is used?
