STURLUSON: EDDA Paperback – 14 January 2009

This is one of the best translations I have seen so far, it will be a welcome addition to my library.

Best English edition of the Prose Edda. Prof. Faulkes provides a complete translation and one that, unlike some of his peers, follows the Old Norse sources. Compared to other translators, Faulkes doesn't take many creative liberties within the translation, which makes it ideal for studying as it avoids certain traps.R.I.P Anthony Faulkes

I bought the *soft cover* edition. Not having read any Norse literature before, and after a long research about what edition of the Eddas would be the best, I decided to buy this one. I am not regretting it in the slightest.The translation of the original texts is very good. The introduction denotes the expertise of the editor, Anthony Faulkes, and this is, overall, a fantastic edition of the Prose Edda.Regarding the Edda's "legibility", I was pleased to find out it's not a heavy religious text. Instead, it's surprisingly thrilling, with some parts coming SO close to being narratives at the same level as those of Tolkien. I'd personally recommend everyone to take notes as they read in order to keep track of the names, terms and relationships, but so far, it's being a most enjoyable reading. I am SO glad I bought it.I'd recommend pairing the purchase of this book with that of the Poetic Edda in the edition of Henry Adams Bellows. There are so many references to the Voluspa, the Grimnismol and other poems, and having both books will allow the reader to read the poems as they are mentioned and to access the notes of Bellows, which greatly help to the comprehension of the Norse mythology.

Bon livre

Je acheté cette version de l'Edda dans le cadre de mes études nordiques. Il est d'un intérêt pour comprendre en premier lieu le Moyen-Âge islandais. On apprend également de nombreuses choses dans la première partie du livre sur la mythologie par exemple.Je le recommande fortement, c'est un super livre.
