I love this thermometer!!! Especially because I’ve only ever used the oral ones.. this is fast and accurate. The numbers and words are very clear. I mean it even reads the temp of room and object and it does body! All accurate! You can turn down the volume on it too. Which is nice so you won’t wake your child if they’re sick. And only for 8 bucks, such a steal!!! Love it!!! 😊

I got tired of using my "rub across your forehead/stick it in your ear" thermometer and IR "point at forehead and read" thermometers have been around for years now so I figured it was time to upgrade. There are a lot of "forehead only" thermometers but I also wanted one that could read the temperature on surfaces. After looking at several candidate products, I selected this Berrcom unit and have been happy with it, especially for the price.The first thing I did was to compare the reading between this thermometer and the previous unit I have been using for years on my forehead and they measured exactly the same temperature which was a good vote of confidence. It is nice to just point and shoot and have a reading in a second instead of having to rub my old one back and forth across my forehead not knowing if it is always flat against my forehead. It is not shown in the picture, but the background lights up green when your temperature is in a good healthy range, and red when it is above normal.Next, I put this product into "surface temperature" measuring mode and checked the wall temperature next to my house air conditioning/heating control unit and they measured the same temperature as well (within one degree). I also recently installed some reflective insulation in front of a window that gets direct sun all day and it was extremely helpful to measure the window surface temperature before and the back of the window insulation after to see that there was a very respectable drop in surface temperature.For under $10, this product is a no-brainer and is great to quickly check your body temperature as well as measuring surface and room temperatures.

The instructions that came in the box did not include steps to calibrate the device.I figured out how to setup and calibrate the device which I’ll summarize below.Overall the thermometer is both accurate and produced consistent Body temperature readings by scanning 3-5cm from the forehead.I tested consistency by scanning my temperature 10 times over an hour and yielded the same temperature each time.Model No.: JXB-178Steps:Open the box indoors.Do not touch the infrared reader which is the barrel of the scanner.Read the instructions to familiarize yourself with the buttons.Install 2 AA batteries at the base of the handle with one oriented + and the other - according to the signs on the inside of the lid.Pull the trigger to turn on the thermometer.Let the thermometer stand out of the box for 15 minutes so that the device temperature reaches equilibrium with the ambient room temperature.After 15 minutes, pull the trigger to turn on the device.Select Body mode by pressing the MODE button.Press and hold the MODE button for 2 seconds. You should hear 1 beep and see a flashing F-1.Press the MODE button to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit units.Press the MEM button to select the high temperature alarm threshold. You should hear 1 beep and see a flashing F-2 on the display.Press the MEM button again to select the temperature offset. You should see a flashing F-4 and then the current offset will be displayed.Press and hold the MODE button to change the temperature offset until you reach your desired offset. The offset will run through a range of values from -5.0 to +5.0 by 0.1 increments. I set mine to 1.4.Press MEM to save.Hold the scanner 3-5cm away from your forehead.Pull the trigger once to turn it on.Pull the trigger again to scan your temperature.Use it on someone at rest who you know is healthy with a normal body temperature as a reference of 98.6 F.Recalibrate by adjusting the offset until the reading is 98.6 F.

This is the easiest thermometer I've ever used. I don't even have to touch my forehead for it to give me my temperature. It's always accurate.One thing I really like is, it is easy to hold and not too heavy.I like that it uses batteries instead of needing to be recharged.

I bought this thermometer primarily for measuring body temperature, but unfortunately, it’s been pretty unreliable for that purpose. It gives inconsistent readings, often varying by a few degrees, which isn’t ideal when you need accurate results.However, it works great for measuring surface and room temperatures, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. It’s fast and easy to use for things like checking the temperature of a baby bottle or room conditions, so I can still get some use out of it.If you’re looking for a thermometer for body temperature specifically, I’d look elsewhere, but if you just need a general-purpose infrared thermometer, it could still do the job. Just keep in mind the limitations with body temp readings.

I have 3 of these I set on surface temperature. They are very important to know the temperature of the water in the aquarium and feeding container ( no water in it in photo but is usually heated to 82 or 83 when turtle and pellets, other food is in it. Also very important anti to know the temperature on the basking platform. It should be around 90 which requires an incandescent bulb for heat. I am using a Sattco 45 watt from Amazon as well and if my hand was all the way under it, would be around 90 at 13". No thermometers in tank have ever been accurate or lasted. For cold days I have a heater but even it is not as accurate. It is a little tricky changing it from Centigrade to Fahrenheit .Also useful for forehead and room!!!! Great price, fast shipping. A +++++
