What a fantatic book
I really ennoyed this book as it was an easy read but with a fantastic story. One of the things I most enjoyed about this book was the descriptions, they really got me hooked onto the book. The story was clearly well thought through and you could tell, when everything fit into place.Crow is a really well thought through character that i think everyone can relate to. The fact this book is written in first person really helped me feel like i was in Crow's position.I think Beyond The Bright Sea has a fantastic mix of different genres which makes it a great book for anyone to read.Overall I think it is a really fantastic book and I really enjoyed reading it. :)

An easy, enjoyable read.
What a lovely book! I was transported to islands for adventure and discovery. My favourite though was the descriptions of characters that kept me reading to find out how their lives turned out. Crow - fantastic name, intriguing character. I enjoyed the journey of self discovery she made. An unusual way to arrive in a family but totally believable. Sad she lost her jewels but glad she found her space in the world. :-).

Bright and Beautiful
My review: I chose to read ‘Beyond the Bright Sea’ with my book club at school. Book club is made up of myself, with 2 other teachers and some pupils from KS3. Lauren Wolk’s book was shortlisted for the 2018 CILIP CARNEGIE and Kate Greenaway Medals, which meant that it it was quality writing, engagement and deals with some interesting themes and concepts. You can check out the other novels that have been shortlisted here.Beyond the Bright Sea was a beautiful little read. The main character, Crow, really captivated me as she journeyed in this novel to find her ‘roots’.Crow’s relationships with ‘Osh’ and ‘Miss Maggie’ were sweet, innocent and endearing – there was such fierce protectiveness and familial love between these three people that you couldn’t help but be warmed by them.Wolk’s writing is perfect in its style for this story. It wasn’t over complicated and had a rawness that I liked. It reminded our book club of Scout in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.The setting was charming and a character in itself, I felt.I would encourage anyone to read this one! And if you have any 9+ year olds then give it to them to read, too.

A lovely story.
I was taken immediately with the characters of Crow, Osh and Miss Maggie. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as I did Wolf Hollow. A very worthy Carnegie nomination.
