Home Depot had unit that was listedon box as 2019 but actual inside No. was 2016. Check the No.
INstalled firts unit in 2012 and had good service until a couple months ago . Contatedted customer survice and had the witch doctor treatment, try this , try that. No solution. Went to Home Depot and purchased new (NOT) unit for a good price $399 plus tax. Took home and installed. Water sprayed out the top of unit. Called customer support and was told that unit was about 6 years old. De-installed and took back to HD and got another unit. Check the box label serial number with serial number on unit. First 2 Digits show year and second show month of MFG. Got good service but with resetting controls caused unit to go into continous flush on old unit. Unplugged and installed new unit. 45 minute install took all day. 2 trips to HD and loading and unloading units.

System failed on. Flooded our septic tanks
We opted for this water boss to save some money over buying a 3M water softener. Apparently it’s a known issue that the system will fail in a mode that will continue to re- generate and pump out water Indefinitely. It filled our septic tanks and consequently flooded our drainfield. Water then was leaching out of our drainfield onto our driveway. Beside causing a muddy mess who wants human waste on their driveway. Water boss needs to call us back.I purchased a model 900 I believe but when I try to put in a customer review online it says they are limiting the reviews that can be posted. Interesting, given the customers need to know this before purchasing.

I'm on my second unit and on it's 2nd resin ...
I'm on my second unit and on it's 2nd resin bin. I won't be buying another. They always develop leaks or other aberrations that take a lot of work and support can't be bothered.

Years of Trouble-Free Service
I've had 10 trouble free years with the older version of this unit (Model 550). I installed it myself. I recently replaced the media myself due to low water flow issues. It still softened just fine. Media breaks down over the years mostly due to chlorine in city water and needs replacement -- about 10 years is normal. This unit, designed for city water, has activated charcoal to absorb chlorine and slow this breakdown, but still media will need to be replaced eventually. Ordered new media from WaterBoss for about $150. It was a somewhat difficult, tedious process, but now the unit functions like new.

Twice Bitten
My second Water Boss a Model 950, somehow generates grey or black water into the household piping, same as the first one did. I got number two because I liked the size and it could be located outdoors (Texas), hoping the problem would not be repeated. In addition to having to replace the controller and other parts over the years, I have been through the cumbersome and expensive routine of changing out the resin and activated charcoal (really difficult due to the design). This evidently has not helped. We got to ignoring the charcoal in the water as it would go away after running the taps, until the next regeneration. However recently we are getting significantly blacker water and it's taking longer to flush it out. This time I am not going to attempt conversation with Water Boss because they have been so rude in the past, particularly the supervisor who you need to talk to for any technical details such as the quantities and method of replacement of the resin and charcoal. They were unable to explain the grey water last time and only alleged it must be due to the characteristics of the city water. They denied that it could be coming from a defect in the softener, but agreed to sell me replacement fill. The manual is useless for understanding anything but installation and identification of replacement parts.

We purchased the Waterboss 950 locally and got it installed ...
We purchased the Waterboss 950 locally and got it installed by a professional. 4 month later the circuit-board went dead (no display) we changed the transformer to realize that it was the circuit-board. Ordered a new one as the C/S told us that the softener was not under warranty any more even so it had run only 4 month (I have to admit we did not install right after purchasing by lack of contractor). One month later it died again this time this shipped one for free as it was under warranty and then 4 month later it dis again this time it was not under warranty any more. Considering that the C/S is barely polite and highly inefficient, I’m not going for this brand anymore!
