Explain Pain and the Protectometer has produced hope for me
I bought this book after being introduced to the noi group by a physical therapist and after going to their website and watching a lot of the videos on YouTube by the authors. So I had learned the concepts and found the Explain Pain concepts a new and hope-producing way to approach a chronic and persistent pain problem. I respect that they teach the biology of pain first and then address their process in how to treat pain. I chose to purchase this book as it is geared toward the person with pain. So it does not give a lot of theory but really you can get that from their website and videos... This is a workbook and I have found it extremely useful. It gave me tools and a language to use when working with my pain and my medical professionals. This concept acknowledges that pain is real and teaches how to retrain your body and brain to address pain. They do NOT say it is all psychological but address the brain and neural system as part of our biology.

Pain is an appetite for protection
A paradigm shift in the conceptualization of pain. Pain is a response that the brain creates when it interprets the stimuli it receives as dangerous. Pain is an appetite for protection. The brain includes a variety of information sources when weighing the safety and danger signals in the environment. This workbook helps you identify all the danger signals that contribute to feeling pain. Knowledge of pain neuroscience alone has a small but meaningfully positive effect on pain levels. This book guides you through a new understanding of pain that is based on the current research evidence with practical application to real life without weighing you down with too much science. As a physical therapist I work with people in pain on a daily basis, helping them understand what pain is and what it isn't has been crucial to helping some of my patients recover.

Great book!
As a Physical Therapist I find the information is invaluable and I hope many people will find the book. This is really how we need to fully embrace and address our bodies.Sorry to say: As much as the print needs to be larger the price should be lower.Great book!

Not worth the money.
Not worth the price. The concepts talked about are pretty self explanatory. I purchased this under the guidance of my yoga physical therapist but definitely would never spend this money or read this book if it wasn't part of my lessons.

The Protectometer is an awesome tool!
I’m going through pain related to a herniated lumbar disc that is taking forever to heal. My nervous system has always been turned up too high, and I also suffer from chronic anxiety. The book has really helped me understand my pain better. I use the protectometer daily and it has helped me get back to moving more. I have less pain now than I did a month ago but I still have more pain than I’d like. The book especially helps me get through bad days and gives me hope that I’ll get through this.

If you have pain, you need this book.
I have chronic pain. This book framed pain in such a way that not only did it help me understand it better, but also gave me a way to actually help decrease my pain. A must read if you or a loved one has any kind of pain.

Overpriced, nothing here not in his Ted talk or youtube videos
This is good information but that information is readily available elsewhere now - although it was not at the time of initial publication. This book is worth maybe $10 if you want to give it to someone else to help them understand their pain -- but if you have been reading and researching your own for awhile there will not be anything new here worth the current price it is being sold for. Returned.
