The suction mount is almost impossible to break free accidentally. I used it on my kayak while paddling on the Columbia River and it worked perfectly. It's sturdy and well made. Real quality. I do think for my uses I would have gone with the unit that omits the extension arm. I had to remove it. While it looked like a good idea, once it was mounted it became obvious that with the camera raised that high over the deck the swing in waves or from paddling was far more that it would be closer to the deck. Once removed there was no more problem.

I will try it on a boat or kayak later on but right now it's sitting on a bracketron cupholder mount, in my Ridgeline. I use it to hold my Samsung Galaxy Note with a 4th design "cradle", or a 7.7 tablet on a RAM x-gear II cradle. The combination of angles and heights is terrific.I think if you were to buy all these parts separately it would work out close to same, but the long marine grade metal pipe would be hard to find. This is a great buy, if I had a need, I would get another, or I may just have to make up an excuse to. :)

This holds my GoPro off to the side for a better angle when making sea kayaking videos. My videos are still boring as hell but the angles you can get with this are excellent. Has never fallen off even when bumped and has been through VERY rough water in the Alaska Inside Passage and San Francisco Bay.

I used this car mount on the outside of my car during motorsports event. At the end of it is a Sony Action Cam (similar to GoPros). The Sony Action Cam I use with this mount is quite light, so there is absolutely no issue with stability. Videos also come out rock solid. I have not tried mounting a DSLR with this mount.

Sturdy and secure mount made with marine grade materials. Easy on(very secure) and easy off. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for a very nice piece of equipment

I asked Kayalu and had the composite parts changed out with aluminum as I didn't need the light weight versions they have for boating. Solid construction and works with other RAM mounts I have so I can mix and match for the view I need.
