Brilliant for cooking Welsh cakes and pancakes
The media could not be loaded. Most of my comments about this Lodge Logic Round Griddle are contained in the accompanying video review, however I have briefly summarised them below.THINGS THAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS CAST IRON GRIDDLE:* No non stick Teflon coating which can get damaged over time and get into your food* It really does seem to make a difference to the taste of things like Welsh cakes - they don't seem to taste the same made in a Teflon coated frying pan* It heats up really quickly* It comes pre-seasoned to start you off with the seasoning process* The build quality is superb. It is solid, well made and should last me a lifetime* I don't have to worry about using metal implements in it - they won't damage the surface as they would with a non stick Teflon panTHINGS THAT I WASN'T SO KEEN ON:* It is extremely heavy! I have fairly weak wrists and I often have to use two hands to pick it up from the stove* It gets unbelievably hot and stays hot for ages. You need to leave it on the cooker to cool down before you can wash it up. Then handle also gets incredibly hot, you MUST use oven gloves to pick it up or you will really burn your hands.* You can't use soap of any form on it to clean it. It gets hot really quickly and I have burned things on it. The temptation is very great to get a bowl of hot soapy water to scrub it - but I have to stop myself* It does need to be seasoned every time I use it - but that is not a fault with this particular item, it would be the same for all cast iron pansMY OVERALL CONCLUSION:This is a really sturdy, good quality piece of cooking equipment. I wouldn't use it for every day cooking but for certain things such as pancakes, Welsh cakes, omelettes etc. it does a great job. It does take a bit more looking after than your standard frying pan but it is worth the effort as it will last a lifetime and not need to be replaced every couple of years.

As Good As Cast Iron Cooking Gets
Item received promptly and well packaged. As many will know Lodge are up there with the best in cast iron cookery and this pan is no different. Great size for crepes, pancakes and also serves as a great sheet for baking scones etc. Comes pre-seasoned but worth seasoning further to ensure better protection. Pretty heavy and takes a little bit longer to preheat but well worth the extra money for Lodge over the cheaper brands. Well recommended, will last for years to come.

Needed one for my Induction Hob - very pleased
Been desperately looking for one that would work on my induction hob. Pleased it works well, and cooked my pancakes amazingly. The handle got pretty hot - so be warned. Everything else is fine.Delivery was in a cardboard box - no outer packaging, so its a heavy box, that you should not drop!

Pre-seasoning works, very sturdy
Lodge is well renowned and for good reason. This pan is ideal for pancakes or breads and gets to heat quickly on a gas hob or on the BBQ grill, and takes the high heat with no problem. The build quality is excellent as a single piece of cast iron. The pre-seasoning works well but it does require care and re-oiling to keep the non-stick. So far it has produced fairly even cooking on wet pancake batter and sticky flatbread dough without any residue or carbonisation. Also worked very well for smashburgers over the Weber bbq. This is a great replacement for a thinner non stick Tefal pan or the like with teflon, and just as easy to use. The main benefit over a non-stick coated pan is you can get it to a very high heat and use metal utensils on it, which is good for something like a burger where you want to make sure you scrape up everything with a sharper edge and want a very hot surface to get a sear. The lower lip on the pan also mean it is easier to use a spatula to get underneath things for flipping etc.

Rust forming and impossible to use for intended purpose
This is my first cast iron pan and not sure if that is the case with all of them, but it is impossible to properly wash (even using the pink stuff) and on the bottom there is rust forming already after only a couple of times of use. I bought this for making french crepes and it’s too heavy to lift to spread batter. Also the handle gets really hot. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Not my best Lodge pan, but still a contender for certain tasks.
Now let me be clear! (As a certain nasally voiced Prime Minister likes to say)….I am a huge Lodge fanboy. I have numerous Dutch ovens, and other cooking pots from Lodge, and prefer them over my enamel Le Creuset cookware just because they are so bulletproof. I think you either love or hate raw cast iron, and I’m a devotee. This pan just falls short somehow. Let me explain.I wanted so much to like this as it’s such a versatile size, and not super heavy like some of the combo cookers and dutchies. The steel is cast quite thin and this adds to the air of purpose for this as a pan for pancakes, thin omlettes and making flat breads such as pittas, chapatis etc.Where it falls short of in the heat distribution. Not sure if it’s due to the thinner cast, but it seems to have a hot spot in the middle, just over the induction ring, this makes it a nightmare for cooking the very things it’s designed for as you get a burnt centre and raw, runny edges.I have old cheaper pans that I’d pick over this branded one for certain frying tasks, although it does a nice job on things like steak if you’re cooking one or two thick cuts in the centre. The handle is nice and slim and the pan looks amazing, but just can’t perform how I hoped it would. I’ve actually got two of these, as one came in a set but had never been used, so maybe that one will perform differently? Also, I can’t seem to get it to take a nice seasoning, which is weird as I’m normally rather good at conditioning cast iron pans. Maybe I just got a lemon? One thing it’s very good for is heating up pitta breads for kebabs. Just slice carefully in half and lay down on a high hi heat for a minute or so each side to get that golden brown colour on the high spots.
