First Climbing Shoe
Fit: I have a high volume foot (wide and with a massive arch). With the straps, this shoe fits my foot with very little to no dead space. My street size is 10.5 but with the Defy I wear 11.5. It’s a tight fit and my toes are touching the end of the shoe which I was advised is the correct fit. On the wall, they’re very comfortable but you’ll need to take them off in-between climbs to let your feet breath. I also noticed that after a few climbs, they still don’t smell which is amazing because my feet feel drenched after a few hours of climbing.Performance: These shoes provide exactly what you need for a first shoe: a great fit so that you can feel the holds better with your foot and toes and something with not too aggressive of a down turn. From what I’ve been told, the more aggressive down turn (the more curved shoes) helps with harder over-hanging routes and problems. What I was looking for in a shoe was something to tackle the more vertical climbs and learning the basic techniques. This shoe is awesome and I couldn’t recommend it more. This is my first review I’ve ever written, but I wanted to write this one because I want more beginner climbers to be aware of this shoe. This shoe wasn’t even on my radar until I went into my gym and the staff recommended it, but every beginner climber should try this shoe on. Pictures don’t do it justice, this shoe will look good on your foot.

Comfy all day climbing shoe
I used to wear the older version of the Evolv Defy before it was discontinued a number of years ago. I probably went through 10 pairs over the years. The reason I like this shoe so much is that I had foot problems (painful popping bones in arch of foot) as a result of wearing too-tight, aggressive climbing shoes in my younger, crazier climbing days. This shoe still works for intermediate climbing even after you size up. I normally wear an 8.5, and buy this shoe in 10.5.Amazingly, even though I can wiggle my toes comfortably, and wear this shoe all day long at a climbing crag, I can still edge on small holds and climb the occasional 5.11. So happy they are making a new version of this shoe.

Comfy and a good value.
Very comfy shoe. It's true to size (or possibly get a half size smaller if you like it a bit tighter) . If at all it has shrunk slightly since I've bought it so take that into consideration. It's not very technical, but it's good for beginner or intermediate climbers. The soles last longer than other shoes I've bought yet it still is quite grippy. This is my second pair and I'll probably buy another when the time comes.

Held Up Well
It was a struggle to try and find climbing shoes in large mens sizes. These ones worked out well. My partner typically wears a 14 in street shoes, and was able to fit into the size 15 of these with a bit of a squeeze. He is only a casual climber ( Read: only climbs when I demand/ask him to come with me - which is 2-3 times a week). The soles are still in tact on these even after the semi-regularly mostly climbing 5.10 routes. (I think this is pretty good since I have burned through 4 pairs in the same amount of time). These are neutral for sure, and I think they are a good beginner shoe, and for the longer sessions at the climbing gym since they aren't too curved to walk in.

Runs small
Great shoe for the price but definitely runs small, even for a climbing shoe. I ordered this for my son who wears a 9.5 and had to exchange for an 11.

Solid beginner pair that wears out quickly
This was my first pair of climbing shoes. The best part about these shoes was the price and the fact that they came in size 14. These were great for getting me into climbing but after 2 months of climbing 4-5 days a week I was ready / needed to upgrade (I chose the Tenaya Iati size 14... see my review there).Looking at the shoes now, the toe box is turned up when laying flat and the rubber is pretty worn and rounded. I just don’t think the Trex rubber is as good other brand’s rubber. Good starter pair for big footed beginners though.

Great quality, small sizing
I wear a 9.5 to 10 in normal shoes, bought 10.5 and they were wayy too small. I couldn't even get my foot inside, had to send them back. Leaving this review for sizing purposes, I measured my foot based on their sizing recommendation and it didn't work out.The shoe quality was excellent. I wish they had fit. For now my climbing gym includes shoes with membership so I'm taking my time to buy

Too small, order one full size up
I wear around a 9-9.5 sneakers, and use size 9 climbing shoes at climbing gyms. I first ordered a size 9 thinking everyone's "complaints on small fits" were regular people unfamiliar with the snug fit of climbing shoes. However, it was WAY too small and had to curve and jam my feet to wear them, and could not even walk on them. I returned and got a size 10, which fit me real snug like the size 9 rentals I usually climb with! Make sure you order a full size up!
