Meets my needs exactly!
With so many rear camera options out there, I'm happy that I found this one. It covers all the bases that matter to me. There's no wiring to pull through the car, and the camera's battery is kept charged with solar power, so there's no need to tap into the backup light circuit. There's minimal blocking of the license plate by the camera or solar cells. I get automatic activation of the system when the car is started, automatic shutoff a short time later, plus the option to easily re-enable the system at any time, not just in reverse gear.Everything needed for installation (except two screwdrivers: one for the license place bolts and one for the camera adjustment screws) is supplied and well packaged. The user manual is written in clear English, not a poor translation from some other language. After I charged the camera's battery for the specified four to five hours, the installation went smoothly and the monitor paired with the camera immediately. The display is smaller than some others, but it's perfectly usable. I really wouldn't want it any bigger. The resolution, refresh rate, and overall quality of the image are fine for the purpose. The one complaint I could make is that the supplied frame is just barely wide enough to accommodate my license plate, making it more difficult than expected to slide the plate into position. Maybe my state's plates are a little wider than others.Anyway, it's all up and running and every function is working as described. What remains is to use it and confirm that the electronics hold up over time, and that the solar cells keep the camera's battery charged. Two and a half years later: Still working great!

Total letdown!
Where to start? Some of the reviews on this item were glowing and some were skeptical. I decided to give this Whistler backup cam a try. The solar tech and cable-free install seemed promising. I bought this in early March, but didn't have time to setup due to time constraints. When the pandemic hit, I had ample time to sit down, read the manual, and try to get this up and running. First, to my dismay, the package was missing parts. My package was missing four of the spacer discs. I still went ahead and tried to take it in stride and make it work. But, secondly, the USB port on the unit is placed in a very inaccessible position near one of the vertical screw linings. Once a USB cable goes in there for the initial charge, it is very difficult to remove. I had to use pliers to get it out. Third, the model number is listed on box and listing as the 1000 model. The stickers on the actual unit says it is the 900 model. So, that is a mixup as well.I charged the base for the recommended time, linked the solar cables, and headed out to the car to do the install. Manual says test connection first before installing. So, I did. It turned on and paired automatically. The connection faded in and out though. The picture quality was blurry and not sharp. Then, the picture on the monitor didn't come back on after the monitor was turned off. I tried any and all combination of button presses. It just died! Just like that. I'm glad Amazon extended the return period, because this piece of junk is going back. I would not recommend this or any other backup cameras from Whistler as they are not proven to last over time and it is quite obvious several folks on here got lemons. In short, buying this product was a huge letdown!

Exceed my expectations
New update after using a few days.1. The camera works 100%, never fail once. It nNever has an incident unable to connect like other reviews . Lucky I get it a tried.2. There are room to improve on setting and operation menu etc.Overall, I am satisfied because it does what I wanted and at a reasonable price. Let's hope the camera last over a year or more. Please see the second picture, I set up the monitor on the provided suction cup. It looks much better.I charged the camera on Wednesday and installed it on my 2011 Benz GLK 350 on Thursday night after work. It took me less just 10 minutes or less. There is absolutely no issue with the connection between the monitor and camera at all. The night time view is not great because the camera does not has build in light so it has to depends on the car backup light. It is understandable because it is running on battery. It is acceptable to me (may not be everyone). This morning, I turned on my car, the monitor image is perfectly clear during the day time (see picture provided). I am happy with the purchase without spending few hundred dollars. I go wireless because my mechanic refused to install the wired camera for me a few years ago. He said it will void the Benz's warranty. I am glad finally I have a backup camera for my car which I planned to keep for a while. I will highly recommend this camera because of the value and quality (acceptable at this price).Updated on 12/5. After using the camera for a few weeks, it works as promised. The monitor connected to the camera each time I started the car. Nothing is perfect such as restarting the camera may takes a few seconds and I cannot figure out how to change the duration of monitor to maximum time. Overall I still happy with the camera since it is able to provide me the rear view without making holes and running wire.

Quick install and value for the money.
Installed in 10 min. Good picture. Power cord plugs into the cig. lighter in my truck--I need to unplug it when my truck is parked since the socket is always hot.Leaving it plugged would drain the battery. Good unit at a good price.

Stopped working after 6 months.
I have purchased two of these. One has been working for a year and still works great. The second unit just stopped powering on at the monitor and is now useless. I checked the fuse in the charger and that was not the problem. Not a good deal at $25/month and then needing replacement.

Worth a try...
Great picture quality. However would not transmit from rear of FJ Cruiser and work. After some experimenting in different locations I ended up disassembling the camera/solar units from holder and affixed to the roof rack. Works great now except for seeing the first two feet from rear bumper. Great idea, weak in execution.
