My go-to pencil...Candy for the coloring addict
I did not know that chalk pencils existed until I read a review that mentioned them. I started searching and came up with this brand. I am so pleased that I found these on my first chalk pencil hunt. STABILLO CarbOthello Chalk Pastel Pencils s are super fun to work with. I am usually really pleased with the finished image, and I especially love using them for grayscale coloring. I initially purchased a 24 piece set, and I was so enthralled with that set that I wanted a larger selection of colors. They come in an easy to open hinged tin box. The pencils are cradled in two layers with thumb holds, in the top tray, for easy stacking/unstacking. They are numbered, but do not have color names. In this set you will find varying shades of the following: there is enough color variety to enable the colorist to do portraits, landscapes, animals, and most any kind of line drawings.1 white1 beige/sand (Good for skin tones)10 browns (very light to very dark)8 greens (bluish, lime to tree leaves, grass)8 blues (baby, sky, dark, greenish etc.)4 yellows (very pale to bright)3 purplish, pinkish lavender (Sorry, but these three colors are a bit hard to define.)3 oranges3 grays2 golds1 black1 red2 reddish, pinkish, orangy1 blush1 paper blending stump1 kneaded rubber eraser1 pencil sharpenerMy descriptive color names may not be precise, but hopefully one can get a good idea of the colors included in the set. You can also see the colors in the pictures below.PROS:Easy to useGive nice potent colorsDry blend easilySharpen easilyGood coloring mileage...nice pastel huesCan be smudged with finger or paper tissue to get even coloringErasableSmooth lay downCONS:Messy to useCreate dustNot really good for precise/fine detailsColors may not be as vivid as wax or oil based pencilsEven after the colors are pretty well set, it is important to put a blank sheet of paper, tissue or whatever, under your coloring hand while finishing your picture. Otherwise, you may have slight color imprints on your skin. I always color a small section of my picture, blend the color(s) and remove the chalk dust before coloring another section. I have never had smudges on my finished colored image. My finished pictures have retained their color well; however, there is a preservative that can be applied for durability. My set arrived rather jumbled and with a few broken tips. The tin box was in a thin plastic envelope that allowed them to be tossed, thrown and mishandled throughout the delivery route. The tin box gives fairly good protection; however…….

Compares well to more expensive brands
Great for professionals or beginners. This is more affordable, yet works just as well as more expensive, bigger brand names. Great colors, vibrant. These are my go to for my commissions. In the picture, I also used Prismacolor Colored pencils, because that's what the customer wanted. I actually think it'd have looked even better with just these! I used pastelmat, it's the best for pastels and colored pencils.

Amazing
I received the older version tin. The pencils arrived in perfect condition. They are a mix of firm, soft, smooth glide on paper. I can't stop playing with them. My only issue is the trays are flimsy making it hard to remove the top tray without pencils falling out. I can certainly get past that though with the perfect array of colors and the amazing texture of these pencils. Saving up for the larger set.

I like them, but
These are wonderful pencils and are beautifully packaged and work wonderfully. My only issue is the color choices. There isn't a true pink and only one pink. Other than that, I'm enjoying using them and recommend them. They are worth the pretty high price tag for the most part.

Fantastic
I LOVE these pastels pencils. I bought the mid size box because I’ve bought too many others that I ended up not liking-these are great. Very soft and blendable and sharpen nicely. If you’re hesitating because of a possible disappointment-don’t. Go for it

So glad I bought these!
So nice! I wish I'd gotten the larger set, but really, with layering I can get pretty much any color I need with the 48-pencil set I chose. The wood is good--doesn't turn to mush when I sharpen them. I do have very good pencil sharpeners, though. (M+R and Sharp Tank) Before I even started using them, I bumped the (open box) on a shelf and dropped every. single. pencil. :( I was so upset. There doesn't seem to have been any damage, though. I haven't discovered any broken "leads" in sharpening--which I've already done quite a lot of at this point, though not with ALL the pencils. Really beautiful, brilliant colors, and I'd say they're the perfect texture/softness/hardness for me.
