My fifth pair - awesome trail shoes
My fifth pair of Salomon Speedcross. Absolutely swear by them. When I run trails I typically run around 20 miles, sometimes more. Wore these a few days ago for the first time on a 28 mile mountain run. Perfect, perfect, perfect. GREAT grip, very luggy, almost like cleats but manages to be exceptionally light. Cushioned well, but not so well that you lost the feel of the trail beneath your feet. I find it incredibly valuable, especially on rocky or technical trails, to be able to feel the ground. I generally put between 400-500 miles on them before retirement.

Ive finally worn through the bottoms abut they ars still going strong and just as comfortable as my new pair which I only wear when ...
Hands down the most durable shoes ive ever owned. I have purchased a new pair for hiking because I wore the grip flat on my original pair. I have put have thousands of miles on these on the Appalachian trail, south America and now they are my construction work shoes that just wont break. Ive finally worn through the bottoms abut they ars still going strong and just as comfortable as my new pair which I only wear when hiking because they have grip still. It takes a long ling time to wear the grip off. They have saved my life hiking up to tolima in Columbia and on river gorges crossing house sized boulders. Where they really shine is muddy trail hiking and step terrain. I use them backpacking with 40lb loads and they really preform like the perfect boot I always thought I wanted. I will never wear another brand of shoe and I have hiked half the Appalachian trail and most the trails in pisgah and the smokies with these in pictures that are my construction shoes now. My dad has a pair now and my fiancee! Do not hesitate just buy them!!

My feet hurt so bad that I almost had to quit the race
Finally a trail/OCR shoe for wide feet! I have wide feet....105 mm for a size 9 1/2 foot. Finding running shoes that fit is tough enough. Trail shoes...forget about it. I bought these shoes 4 days before Spartan Sprint in Miami. I had run Bonefrog the weekend before in Inov-8 OCR shoes. My feet hurt so bad that I almost had to quit the race. Going into Spartan, my feet hurt, but I wanted to give it a try. By mile 3, I was pain-free and running faster than I ran at the start of the race. Grip in the sand and loose ground was very good. The treads are deep, but not crazy deep. They create a nice sturdy base and I never felt like I had unstable footing on rocky terrain. They had good grip on walls and other obstacles. I would not say that grip on a wall was a strong point for the shoe, but better than average for a deep tread shoe. Draining of water was average. They felt very sturdy when wet and my foot was not sloshing around inside, but they did hold some water. Overall, it is a very comfortable shoe and I would recommend it to fellow wide-foot athletes who struggle with foot pain in shoes that don't fit well. I'm very happy that I bought this shoe.

Let me start by saying I really like Soloman shoes they are my preferred brand
Let me start by saying I really like Soloman shoes they are my preferred brand. I ordered a 13m because it was the only option available in a 13. I know my feet are wide so their a little tight. After 5 miles they fit fine. I ordered this shoe as a walking shoe. I walk 5-10 miles a day on asphalt. These shoes would be awesome under the right circumstances but they are NOT for hard surfaces. The tread is very aggressive, almost like a kleet. These would be great for trail runners. So far I have approximately 30 miles on the shoes and am seeing pretty significant wear on the tread due to extensive use on the asphalt. Again this is my own fault for not properly researching the shoe before buying. I liked what I saw and made a compulsive buy. This review is just to make buyers aware that the shoe is not for hard surfaces. The tread placement puts uncomfortable pressure points and friction spots on your feet, if your using them on a hard surface. However on soil these shoes provide awesome traction and are very light weight and are a great type of shoe in that environment. 3 weeks and the shoes are almost done for. Just from walking on asphalt.

Excellent Shoes for OCR Use!
I am doing an OCR (Obstacle Course Race) this weekend and wanted some shoes that would give better grip and protection for some of the obstacles.First impression was that these shoes are very light! They also fit very snug, sort of like a slipper - which I like. The lace system seems good, since I won't have to mess with it once it's set, but that will be TBD after a race. The toe area was comfy. Seems like good arch support and I have high arches. The shoe also has a fairly decent insert. The soles are not too hard either, so hopefully they'll be OK for running on pavement if needed.Sizing: As everyone suggested, they do run a little small and I went with the 10's. I will confess that I also ordered the 9.5's and while they fit, they were very snug and I worried that they might create numbness running or hiking. Plus, I have a somewhat wider foot in the toe box, but a narrow heel (I'm very average build at 6'0 and 195lbs). The person who suggested the half size larger than you'd normally use supporting a wider foot seemed to have good advice too.First Test: I just got back from a 4 mile hike on a somewhat steep and slightly damp trail, and these shoes were phenomenal! I cannot wait to see how they perform after break in and once I dial in which socks work best with them to prevent heel chaffing (the material inside the shoe is somewhat abrasive, so it will rub over time). No issues.I'll report back after my 12 hour spartan race on Sunday with feedback on how they do.Bottom line - Would buy again! Excellent value for $80 shipped.
