Fritz 16 Chess Playing Software Game Program Bundled with Chess Success Training Software

Latest version of the classic chess playing program. I'm a patzer so I'm not using this program to analyze games or prepare lines.When chess programs first started out their main problem is getting better - getting stronger so they could pose a credible challenge to players. I'm old enough to have played early versions of various programs and honestly they were OK but not that good. Today, only the top 10 players in the world can ever hope of winning a game against these programs and forget taking a match.Ironically today, the challenge is to tweak the programs to play like humans - make human mistakes and have human foibles. This allows the program to be of greater value as an entertainment and teaching tool. It largely succeeds but some of the old foibles remain. I wish the program were more transparent and intuitive to use but it has to deal with legacy issues relating. Still it is pretty good and would be worth it if you have an older version (like version 10 or 12) I upgraded from version 13. If you have a more recent version, I'm not sure it would be worth it but see what others think.

I wish there is more documentation on how to use it. It isn't very clear how to make the best use of it as a beginner in learning chess. I've been distracted over the holidays so haven't really put it through it's paces yet . It looks promising but still reserving my judgment until I get back to using it. Once I get over the learning curve that is difficult without a manual and limited resources on the web I suspect I will be glad I have it.

I have to give this product a low rating due to false advertisement! They gloat that it provides a 6 month account for the online database etc.... It is a basic account with limited access! This is the entire reason I purchased this rather than a database! So be aware you will have to spent enough to buy this game again to have unlimited access to the online database and features!

Cost is a bit high. The program is challenging. You set the level and work from there.

This game is a little cumbersome to use. Writers need to make this game a little more intuitive and user friendly. If you like playing with a handicap against the top level, this game is so-so. Doesn't give you the options that the old Chessmaster program gives you. But overall, it's pretty good.

It has far more features than I currently know how to use but I look forward to expanding my app and chess understanding using this product.

Many useful features for beginners such as visual hints. Have only had the Fritz 16 program for a week now but the biggest improvement over previous versions I have noticed is the Tactical Analysis function. There are many advanced features that are far above my head, and it can be a bit overwhelming learning some of them.
