i had a cheaper cone maker that I ruined 5-6 batches of batter on. It would burn in one side of the circumference and leave the other uncooked. i won't mention the brand. This Chef's Choice 838 SE made a perfect cone on my very first try. As it did for the remainder of the batter batch. Not one miss!! if you use the recommended slightly less than 1/4 cup of batter each, it seals tightly enough that you don't have uncooked batter all over the outside. Cleaned it up with only a dry towel in about 20 seconds.

added: The second time it was used the flimsy plastic latch snapped in half. Would give this zero stars if possible.This was supposed to come with a cone form. It didn't. There is no way to just request a cone form without sending the whole thing back and probably getting a replacement, also with no cone form. There should be a way to ask for a missing piece without returning the main item.From the description: "Special-edition lid; built-in cord storage; recipes and cone form included".

I have used this about once a year at the most and very surprised to find the top closure mechanism to have fallen off as i was closing the top. The cones are soft and soggy now as the seal is not established. I think it's trash. Very very low use and terrible quality for the $$$ price we paid. The closure mechanism is not resistant to the steam heat. Not pleased.

I used the EdgeCraft 838-SE for the first time and everything went perfect. The cones came out nice and crispy. I made a few chocolate sugar cones. And even e few Red Velvet sugar cones. The cone-roller helped very well.One warning. Just like others already said, the machine does get very hot. So be very careful. Also handle the lid with care cause it can come back down if you handle it rough. And since the machine gets hot, it can become a dangerous situation.I don't know how long this machine will last, since I just got it and I've only used it twice.But overall I'm enjoying it.Update May 10, 2018It's been 3 years and the machine still works fine. I've added a couple of pics more where I've shaped the waffles into taco shape and made a desert taco filled with icecream, whipping cream, cookies and fruits.I still think it's a great product and easy to use and now have proof that it can last for some time. Still enjoying it.

This is pretty expensive gadget for a one use only. I returned the first one as it didn't heat evenly and since the second one was exactly the same I decided it is a flaw in the design.It makes delicious ice cream cones with the Chefs Choice cone mix.

Great Waffle cone maker! I had been looking for something like it for a very long time - didn't realize the correct name of it. Makes great waffles, easy to use, easy to clean! If you and your kids love real ice-cream waffles Highly recommend getting it! btw, it's a lot of fun to make them with your kids - just, make sure they don't touch it as it's hot.Enjoy!

This is designed for making ice cream cones. I also use it to make crispy cookies - kind of like pizzelles. Very quick to make them.

Loved this UNTIL I used it for the 3rd time (which was after the return date expired so I can’t even return it now) & the latch in the front broke off. Made cheap!😡
