Do you miss the Christmas TV specials of times past?
If your answer is "yes", then this VHS is for you. It features clips of musical numbers from the Andy Williams Christmas TV specials from the late 60's and early 70's. All the 19 clips are in full color. The sets and costumes are wonderfully colorful. It's as if a christmas card has come to life! All of this with the smooth voice of Andy Williams singing his Christmas classics. The quality of the clips are surprisingly good considering how old they are. Joining Andy on some musical numbers are the Osmond brothers, the Williams brothers, and one duet with his former wife Claudine Longet. On several of the solo numbers are backup dancers/singers all beautifully costumed.THE SONGS:Solo- Most Wonderful Time of the Year, White Christmas, You meet the Nicest People, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?, Skater's Waltz, Some Children See Him, The Christmas Song, Ave Maria, Moonlight In Vermont, Sleigh Ride, Mary's Boy Child, Village of St. Bernadette, It's Christmas, Silent Night, O Holy Night, and May Each Day.With the Osmond Brothers- It's a Holiday Season and Silver BellsWith the Williams Brothers- Jingle Bells and I'll Be Home for ChristmasWith Claudine Longet- My Favorite Things Only one complaint, they could have left out one corny skit that involves a man in a bear costume, it's out of place among the musical numbers. But it is thankfully brief.Other than that it's a great VHS for fans of retro, fans of Andy, fans of Classic TV, and anyone who loves old fashioned sentimental Christmas programs.

Why isn't entertainment like this anymore?
This video offers highlights of the annual Christmas shows (televised during the 1960's/early 1970's) featuring Andy Williams, his siblings (known as the Williams Brothers) and the Osmond Brothers. The performances (by today's standards) and stage sets are simple, but the exuberance and joy of the music is wonderful! I'm old enough (age 41) to only "barely" remember the Andy Williams Christmas shows and I certainly don't remember any of these performances. The most enjoyable songs are the performances by the Williams Brothers and the Osmonds (both as the original quartet and when Donny joined the group in the late '60's). The barbershop harmonies of both groups (particulary the Osmonds) are a treat for the eyes and ears; it depicts what very talented human beings are capable of doing. This tape evoked two emotions and responses in me: first, it leaves the viewer/listener hungry for more (it's obvious that more performances of similar quality could have been included) and, second, you can't watch this tape without shaking your head wondering why vocal "entertainment" in our culture today can't be like this anymore. Is there any young talent out there today with the capabilities that the early Osmond Brothers had? If there were, would Hollywood even acknowledge them?...or do you have to be vulgar to record these days? This tape is a capsule of an era that SURELY is long gone; I only wish that it can could back once again! Entertaining from beginning to end!

A Good Purchase
I agree with everyone else - its Andy Williams, there's great guests and the video quality is also great, considering when it's from. My only complaint is that there is no option to watch w/o the dialogue. In case you do not know, before every single song, we the viewer gets a history lesson about the next performance. The first time around, it is interesting & informative and sort of nice to hear Andy's take on things. Sure, it's informative & sentimental but after watching the dvd's a couple times, it is slightly(increasingly?) annoying as it breaks the flow... Not to mention, I prefer seeing the younger Andy...There could have easily been an option to "watch videos only". So, a big 5 stars for Andy & the amazing guests, but 3 stars for the DVD's format = 4 stars. All in all, I highly recommend!

Wonderful
I know it is easy to say that something has been lost from TV entertainment. Maybe this is a generational thing; it is more than simply the passing of the times. The Andy Williams Show - like so many other entertainment shows of that time - was a time when we as a family would sit as a family and enjoy family time. The passing of the times should not have destroyed that. It has. We do not make the time just to sit and enjoy. Mind you, today's 'reality' shows are NOT something I sit down to enjoy. In fact I do not sit down with them at all. Thus purchasing this set now means that simplest of life's pleasures remains possible. By the time I had watched this once, I wanted more...

Love Christmas programing. Our family is not able to have Christmas on the 25th of December because of our various occupations
We have Christmas when we are all able to be together. Because of divorce type of work not everyone can have Christmas on the 25th of December. So we have collected videos to watch the 'week' of Christmas as usually most everyone else have celebrated Jesus' birth and moved on to after Christmas sales. We enjoy having our own Christmas whenever we are able to all be together. Happy to add this to our viewing this year. Not watched yet but Andy Williams is one of my all time favorites and excited to see the Christmas show again. The young adults love to see the performers back when they were kids. Wonderful times at Christmas. Also bought 'Die Hard' my 21 yr old granddaughters favorite Christmas movie. . ? Mine Miracle on 34th st.

Andy Williams Collection DVD
I have loved this artist since I was in high school and each morning after his show I would talk about it with my friends at school. We bought his albums and played them and listened to them on the local radio station, "Top 60" each Saturday. We bought the sheet music of our favorites and learned to play them on the pianos in our homes. I felt very bad when I heard he died and went directly to Amazon to buy his music. I was pleased to find DVD's of some of his great shows. This is truly an Andy Williams dream set. I loved listening to him sing the signature song that he ended each show. Tears flowed hearing his wonderful voice and seeing something long past come back to life on a DVD.

Christmas Present - Little Sad....
I bought this for a Christmas present - it did take just under a month to arrive but that was ok because I ordered it early enough - but one of the reasons I bought it is that the product is listed as PAL and Region 2 when dad unwrapped it on Christmas day and tried to play it we realised it wasn't PAL but NTSC and as he hasn't got a multi-regional dvd player we can't play it on the DVD player - SO ANYONE BUYING THIS PLEASE NOTE IT IS NOT PLAYABLE IN THE UK unless you have a multi-regional player regardless of info submitted by seller.Product detailsFormat: Box set, Colour, DVD-Video, Import, PALLanguage: EnglishRegion: Region 2 (This DVD may not be viewable outside Europe. about DVD formats.)I will keep it because I can play it off my laptop and it is a lovely dvd collection, but will now have to get him something else... :-( Read more
