Perfect for Mailing Data and Video Projects! SOLID PERFORMER
If you're like me, maybe you have several computers or do some public speaking and need your larger projects in one portable resource. That's exactly how I'm using this WD 3TB Black My Passport. It's so quiet that you may not be sure it's running at all, but it does, and just with power through the USB-3 pigtail that comes with it.So much less expensive than a comparable SSD, that you can get several of these and have backups.I also have a Red Version so that I can find it quickly in my camera bag. When I have to travel and collect a lot of video data, this is part of my redundant backup regimen. I save the CF cards from my camera bodies and also backup all RAW data to my Passport Portable drives. it's very inexpensive peace of mind.FAST, I don't have a method, or I'm not tech savvy enough to "clock-the-drive", but I can share that I can edit and work on a video in Adobe Premiere Pro at 1080p at 60 fps with no lag problems. But I primarily import the data to the computer and then back-up the work on the Passport drive.I did a recent presentation and had large video files that I needed to share with my audience. Again, 1080p files at 60 fps played perfectly with no glitches. Very convenient to be able to use this drive as a portable video presentation resource. It has a solid feel, sits in one spot without much concern with sliding around as it has four soft rubber pads when laying flat, though it seems to perform equally well at any angle.I did get the zippered case with it and highly recommend some sort of protective enclosure for the drive. Even when I'm really loading or unloading the drive, it doesn't seem to get very hot? No visible venting and no internal fan.I also use these drives to mail my data to other creatives. The drive (without the pigtail) weighs exactly 8.5/8 ounces and you can ship it First Class Mail. Well under the First Class Postal Limit for weight.I'm very pleased, performance, form, housing, and weight. I would definitely recommend the WD 3TB Black My Passport as a working extra drive.

Great product
I love this little drive. I bought the 3 terabyte drive as a "back up to my backups". I connected it directly to my Dlink 890DL router via the USB 3.0 port on the router. It acts as a network connected drive, and is accessible from all of my computers (Mac and Windows machines). I have 2 primary backup drives (WD My Book 2 Terabyte, and an Apple Time Capsule 1 Terabyte) connected directly to my MAC. My family dumps pictures and music to the Apple and WD all day long. I back both of those "primary" backup" drives up to this "secondary backup" drive. You can never have to many backups:) The connectivity was fairly easy. The router connected to the drive right away. My Windows machine was easy to map to the drive, but the MAC was a bit more clumsy. I had to install an App on the MAC for it to see the drive (drive is Windows format). I believe newer Mac OS will see Windows drives, don't quote me on that. To access the drive from the MAC is still a bit clumsy, but it works. Overall a good experience, and I simply drag the entire contents of my primary backups to this secondary backup drive. The drive gets it's power from the USB port, so only one cable to worry about.

it's what I use for doing backups for my computers
It's not as simple as the older model My Passport. I would have given 5 stars if there was a way to turn off automatic backups. There may be a way, but it's not obvious. This newer My Passport insists on doing automatic backups that are only a few megabytes. I disconnect My Passport to keep it from doing those. I really doubt that that's an adequate backup. To do a proper backup, I recommend downloading Acronis True Image WD Edition. Then as long as you have a WD device such as My Passport connected to your computer, you can save a proper backup to a drive other than C provided your operating system is one of those supported by Acronis. The backups that I do are multiple gigabytes. I always put the date and computer description in the name of the backup file on My Passport so that I know how recent it is and which computer it's for. Then I delete the prior backup so that I only have the latest one and don't clutter the drive with files that I don't need. A really nice thing about this USB 3.0 external drive is that it is much faster than the older USB 2.0 version. It will do a backup in about an hour that My Passport USB 2.0 drive took several hours to complete.

So far, so great
Working great so far. I plug it into a 3.0 USB port and the transfer speeds are nice (about 110 to 115 MB/s transfer speeds), at least in comparison to my previous portable drive haha. This review my change down the road if it has any issues but so far I'm enjoying this immensely and would definitely recommend it.Cosmetically I'm not a fan of the sharp box-like edges but it's not bad enough for me to remove the star, it's not hideous or anything. The flawless performance is all I care about.

Amazing Hard drive
I bought this hard drive because I desperately needed more storage to keep up with my ever growing Xbox one library. After a lot of searching around, I chose this one and I have to say, I think I made the right choice. It is quiet, safe, and stylish all at the same time. It does what It is supposed to do and looks good as well. The black model perfectly matches the Xbox one. If you're looking for extra storage for your gaming console like I was, look no further, this thing is the truth.
