THINKWARE X500D Dashcam with Rear View Camera with 32GB MicroSD Card

Yesterday late afternoon I had some questions about operation of the camera and software so I called Thinkware tech support. The phone number did not seem to be working and I was concerned about the company and the support. I sent an e-mail and posted a request on Facebook as well. This morning I received a call from customer support. WOW, prompt, helpful and not reading a script from some offshore phonebank! The technician was from the company answered all my questions. Outstand customer support and Thinkware is working on the phone number problem I experienced.I own an X500 with front and rear camera. The video and sound quality of the camera are more than I expected! I have two 16 year old drivers and this camera is great insurance for them, as well as a great training device.Already the camera has helped. One of my sons came home feeling like he did not see a car and did something wrong because someone blasted a horn at him. I reviewed the camera and saw my son did NOTHING wrong!My son was making a left turn from a side street into a parking lot. He had his signal on (I could hear the audible sound of the signal in the camera video) and he was driving at a very carefully. As he started his left turn I could see from the rear video footage that the car turned onto the street behind my son, rapidly accelerated, and started to pass my son on the left.If an accident had occurred, the video clearly showed the other party at fault and I was able to use it to show my son his innocence in the matter. The video also made him aware of crazy things drivers do and increased his defensive driving skills. :)The speaker in the camera is a little soft while driving and I do not see a way to amplify it, however it is audible and I do not see that as any big problem. The sound played back on my computer is very clear and the volume is fine.Again, I would definitely recommend this product. The product is great, the support is great and in the event of an accident the camera (front and rear) provide great video for your insurance company or the police. I did not wire the camera to use the parking lot feature, however if you have an expensive car I believe this would show anyone damaging/dinging the paint or breaking in.

I live in the south and temperatures here can reach over 100 Degrees in the summers. Other dash-cams I have owned eventually succumbed to the heat. I liked the first X500 that I bought so much that I bought this second for my wife's car. I only gave it 4 Stars in ease of installation because running the wiring for the rear camera is a chore. If it could be made to connect to the front camera via blue-tooth or something similar, it would be perfect! In any event, a Great Dash-Cam!

How to wire the x500DIf your x500D comes with only the 12v cigarette lighter plug, then parking mode will not be enabled on you x500D. (Mine did not come with the optional $30 wiring kit so I ordered one). The 12V lighter plug does not supply the constant power needed for parking mode. The x500D will recognize this and it will not enable parking mode until you make the connection using the wiring kit. You can modify the supplied 12V plug wire and use it for hard wiring, but you won't have the 2nd 12V constant needed for parking mode. It's not there.I even opened the 12v plug to see if the extra power lead was included in that wire. It is not. There are only 2 conductors, a + and a - .When you mount the rear camera, the cable and connection should be on drivers side. (To your right as you face out the rear window). This will orient the rear camera will make for cleaner wiring if the wire comes from the drivers side.Unit is nice and small. Compact clean look. I will be hard wiring with the optional $30 kit.

I am going to give 3 stars because 1: the sensitivity is way too touchy it goes into incident mode at every bump and even with windshield wipers on.2: Video quality is not full hd as claimed (But still good enough to do it's job)3: 1 min recording loops is too short it should be selectable 1/3/5/10 min loops.4: for A 250 dollar cam it should have more user controllable features even setting the clock on it requires A calculator and alot of patience.5: this cam really needs to be able to support A 256 gb cf card. For people like me who use it 8 to 10 hours A day 3.5 hours of record time before overwriting the earlier files is just not enough.The good: I have been using this dash cam for close to 2 years now and it works all day every day most dash cams just do not hold up to extended use but so far this one has held up well is sub freezing temps to as high as 175 deg f. (left van in the sun all day it got to 175 in the van) and started up and worked fine. so good job on durability. I wish it had A swivel mount. I did modify A gopro swivel mount to work with this cam which was easy with the right tools but everyone does not have A hot wire cutter to make their own mount. all in all I'm not unhappy with this cam but for the price it needs much improvement.

My entire family has these for all of their cars. We have caught countless accidents and provided them to law enforcement and those involved. Very easy to install, very easy to load on to a computer and pul video off/save as well.Do not wait, in today's day and age, you need one of these!

Its great only problem is night view has glare also glare off the back window from the blue LED light but covered up with black tape and that went away. Viewer for Mac is not great PC version is better but have to turn on the other computer to view the footage.... So far its great we shall see when the footage is extremely needed.

Love this dashcam. Took quite a bit of elbow grease to wire it up, but sits nicely and has given me no problems so far. Only minor annoyance is that the rear camera has a blue LED that stays on when in park mode. I guess to let thieves know it's recording? Don't really see the point and it draws attention.

Loved the first one we purchased for my wife's car so purchased another for my car. Price is right and you get a lot. Satellite linked, tells you in advance where there a traffic camera, maintains date, time and location on the video and has great video.

Its all good . The only thing I would improve on is the mount. It would be nice to be able to swivel and point camera in different direction if needed. I tried to find a mount for this camera that would allow this but could not find one available for it.
