Good Printer and works with Generic Replacement Toner
I purchased this printer about three weeks ago but wanted to use it some before writing a review.I selected this printer due to the heavier paper weight specifications when using the standard paper tray (16 to 60 LB paper weights when using the main paper tray). The other printers that I considered did not allow these higher weights. I have been using 32 LB paper weight with no problems so far.I’m printing double sided color brochures with B&W plus Color text, with and without a background image. I’m pleased with the results. This printer is connected to a wired Ethernet switch on a home network with multiple computers and printers. I occasionally want to print from an Android phone or tablet. It doesn’t appear that the WI-FI Direct would work for me as I normally have a wired connection set up and you can’t do both. So, I selected the Google Cloud Print method and registered the printer on that free service. I was able to get printing to work from a Samsung phone but not a Samsung Tablet.I have no need for the fax capability so I have not tried it.Scanning documents is working but it takes a little experimenting to figure out which settings to use and when. I typically want either B&W or Color PDF documents. So far, I have not been able to get good quality B&W PDFs, but Color PDFs are good.Due to the cost of the toner cartridges, I just received a set of generic replacement cartridges. They installed just fine. Not even a warning message about non-standard cartridges. I printed out the double sided brochure described above. Looking very close, and comparing to the original toner, it appears to be very slightly lighter in shade and slightly less sharp. Using a magnifying glass I could see some places where there seemed to be a shadow of one color where it should not be.Looking at the user manual, there are some selections under Adjustment/Maintenance. (1) Auto Adjust Image Regularly and (2) Correct Print Color Mismatch When Main Power is On. Both of these can be done manually one time, or set to occur at each power up. After running these, the above minor problem disappeared. These adjustments were very easy and did not use any toner or paper. I don’t know what it did, but it helped. The colors are still an extremely small amount lighter in shade, but I can no longer see any difference in sharpness (compared to the original manufactures’ toner). The default settings for both of these were OFF. I changed both to be ON (to occur at each power on). This printer does not come with a full manual. It has a CD with an electronic HTML manual. There is good and bad with this. It allows you to quickly jump to related text with the extensive use of Hyperlinks, but I would prefer a printed manual. This E-Manual can also be downloaded from their website, but not a normal PDF of the entire manual.Overall, I’m happy with the purchase.

The good: Packaging is first-rate
What this printer does well, it does really well. It's flaws can be easily lived with. The good:Packaging is first-rate. Very sturdy boxing.Print quality is very good. Print speed a tad slow but acceptable.Build quality cannot be faulted in any way. It is built very well.Menus and controls are excellent IMO.Wireless setup was easy and trouble-free. (I haven't used it with a USB or ethernet connection.)Not so good:This MFP is really really heavy. But, good construction comes with a weight penalty.I wouldn't recommend installing it without help.If you are using a Mac running MacOS Sierra, you'll have to download the latest drivers from Canon.Surely Canon could update the install CD to include the latest drivers. On the plus side. Canon alerts you to this on a separate sheet. The canon web site is not the easiest to navigate. It does, however, have what you will need. The Bad:Toner is very expensive. You can use cheaper 3rd party toner, but you run the risk of unreliability and/or poor results. The driver software seem a bit limited in features compared with other printers I've used.A quirk in the driver does not allow me to print from the main tray from MS Word, only from the aux. tray. The main issue is scanning. Scanning is glacially slow. My inexpensive inkjet scans many times faster. If you scan more than occasionally, buy a standalone scanner such as a SnapScan if this is your printer.I have no need to fax, so I cannot comment on how well it faxes. Please look to other reviews for comments on faxing.Would I but it again? Yes, I would.Edit: Usability issues have been resolved in various ways. I now feel this printer deserves a 5 star rating. It is almost ideal for a small business/home office. Only issue remains the cost of Canon toner.

Don't pay $250 for an inkjet! Step it up to LASER!
Great printer! There's nothing like the crisp text and speed of a color laser printer, and there's nothing like having one at home!Pros: You get a color laser printer with built-in fax and a 2-sided Auto Document Feeder (ADF) at a very reasonable price - this scanning capability sealed the deal for me. The scan quality is excellent with very fast built-in OCR capabilities.I have set this printer up to print from USB, as well as via ethernet and Wifi on our home network. It works well on all of these, but for speed and reliability, ethernet is your best bet. Scans load much faster. You can print from or scan to a USB drive, a great feature that works very well and comes in handy if you're having network issues.Pro tip: Buy aftermarket toner to really make this affordable. Otherwise you'll spend an arm and a leg after the starter toner runs out in a few thousand pages.Cons: The scan software leaves much to be desired, and thin sheets of paper jam easily in the ADF. Both are flaws I can live with, but they do detract from the user experience and keep this review from being 4 stars. Scanning especially ought to be much simpler and more straightforward for what is otherwise an excellent machine.Overall, I recommend it. 3 months in and we are quite happy with this purchase. If you're looking to upgrade your inkjet situation for home or light office use, this printer is a great choice.
