Tired of your ISP's modem or just need something better? Do it right.
As far as combo-boxes go, this is a winner. Netgear had some earlier hiccups with this (the V1... you'll see some of those reviews mixed in with the reviews for this V2) but the V2, which I purchased, is a winner.Everything my telco/ISP (who Netgear does warn about in their supplied setup booklet) said I couldn't do on my own in order to get me to buy their cheap, overpriced, less functional, less secure, box, the D6200 does with room to spare. I only wanted two SSID's (2.4Ghz & 5 Ghz) but got total of 4 in the form of the main SSID and a guest SSID for each band. I have full control of the visibility, whether it's enabled, and if wifi traffic is isolated from my local network (the wired ports) for each SSID. It has an external WAN port so you can switch between DSL or Router mode at will. I can't test that because I don't have cable. However, if I do upgrade to bonded-DSL (aka Vbond) and go to 24 Mbps, I will be using it. This may be Netgear's intention: Have Vbond running in an external modem with a failover mode by simply moving the RJ-11 phone plug. From unboxing it to having it up and running took me about 10 minutes. I then checked for the latest firmware, found there was an update and updated it. Piece of cake to do. After another 20 minutes I had it completely configured to serve my whole home (my media server, tv's, laptops, tablets and phones). Yeah, it does all that and gives you the ability to specify QoS for each type or host or by program/application name (specific ports). You can create your own 'services / applications' as you see fit. There are only two things I wish it would do that my Thomson can do. 1) Have multiple 'subnet' interface addresses for true subnet support (like the router it should be). That would make putting wired on the 10.0.1.x and wifi's on 10.0.2.x, 10.0.3.x, 192.168.1.x, etc perfectly logical without the need of MORE hardware. The other thing I wish it would do is with port-forwarding. It does NOT redirect. If data is received at port 'x', it must be forwarded to port 'x' and not redirected to port 'y'. Doing this would greatly enhance local security by making it harder to guess which external port is what. This would let you hide your ports for your use.Since installing the unit, it's emailed me the logs several times as someone tried to get in through my firewall. I had the attack recorded and reported to me as it was happening. As for performance, it's quick! While I can't speak to where 802.11ac will go, I can tell you this box does shovel the bits really well. I'm able to watch 1080p movies on 7 different devices at the same time without pauses (about 215 Mbits/sec). My 'extreme' wifi won't do that. If I've done the math right, I should now be able to serve up to about 20 simultaneous video streams, presuming 802.11ac does what it claims).I've also already experienced service outages (normal for winter here) and it was flawless as it should be. The local loop was never interrupted by either the drop or return. The unit comes with complementary telephone support for the first 30 days (a very nice touch).I still have my Thomson Speedtouch (which I 'retired' to add better/integrated wifi to my home) but doubt I'll need it.Sure this isn't cheap, but given the different modems I looked at, including the junk from the telco (and other ISPs) this was the clear winner. No doubt in my mind.

This made a big difference and our internet isn't so crappy anymore!!!
We have been having issues with our internet and signal off and on for the last six years, we live in a rural area and only have one company to choose from for internet access and that is through our phone company. Anyways, we finally decided to try this... I probably would have tried it earlier, but I really know nothing about this type of stuff and I didn't know if anything would work if it wasn't bought from the internet company. This device has improved my internet tremendously! We haven't had any issues (knock on wood) since this was hooked up! I purchased the fastest internet speed available because we have all of our televisions streaming, multiple tablets in the house and cell phones too and since all of our TV shows are streamed they were always buffering and that was with only one TV on in the house, it was soooo frustrating! Since we have had this hooked up we have had no buffering and I now have signal in the whole downstairs (finished basement) of my house, before I could never keep a connection on my phone to play a video.Set up was a little bit of an issue because the genie never popped up on the computer. I called the customer service number and got a really nice woman, the only problem was she had an accent. I don't say that to be mean, I say that because I think the call wouldn't have taken quite as long as it did if I didn't have to have everything repeated. The customer service woman was extremely nice though. Anyway if anyone out there in Amazonville decides to purchase this, it will probably be easier to connect via cell phone or tablet because while I was on the phone with customer service I tried to connect on the tablet, the genie popped right up and I was able to connect! I tried to explain to the woman that I was finally connected, but she still insisted on walking me through a few steps on the computer, I don't know if those steps were necessary because it was in the settings, and since I couldn't really understand what she was saying I just went with it. Anyways, after an afternoon on the phone we were finally up and going and have not had any problems since! I would definitely recommend this product it made a huge difference with our service and even though I did have to spend a lot of time with customer service, the customer service was wonderful and she really did seem to care and want to make everything right so for that I am thankful and thought it was worth it. I have been recommending this box to all of my neighbors too and I actually believe one of them has already purchased because he texted me to get the model number.

Returned due to issues
Had Issues with it, ended up returning it. It wasn't receiving IPV6 addresses correctly, was hot at times, and would reboot itself.
