Would this be able to handle the Nexus 6?
I have a Nexus 6 which is probably the biggest cell phone you can buy. I was skeptical that a magnetic holder would be able to handle the 6 but I saw a lot of good reviews and thought I'd try it.First mounting the holder to the car. It comes with a disc of incredibly sticky stuff that should stick to anything, then you put the suction cup on the disc and pull a lever. The suction cup is made from even more incredibly gooey sticky stuff. So that looked promising. But the sticky disc didn't stick to my dash at all. My dash has a dimpled faux-leather finish and the disc just slid right off. Scratch that. But this thing can also mount on glass so I just swiveled it around and mounted low on the windshield - solved.Next up - putting the metal on my phone. There are two metal mounts that hook onto the phone. You can use either the bigger rectangular one or the smaller circular one. You peel off some tape and stick the metal to the phone then the metal locks onto the magnet.Well the Nexus has a curved back and the metal is flat so that was the first problem. I opted to mount the larger metal pad inside my case between the back of the phone and the case. That wasn't ideal because the phone case no longer really fit the curved back of the Nexus 6. I covered the scratchy metal with some clear tape to protect the phone finish and just pushed it back in the case. But that was a fail. The magnet wasn't powerful enough to lock the phone in place through the case. And of course now the metal wouldn't come off and re-stick on the outside of the case, which is also slightly curved. The sticky patch separated from the metal. So scratch that mount. Now I'm down to just the smaller round metal. I gave it a bit of a bend to accommodate the curved case and stuck it on the outside of the phone case. Because it was the smaller one and because my phone is enormous I was worried it wouldn't have enough magnetic pull to lock the phone in place. Now that the metal was slightly bent it no longer made solid contact with the mount either. Well... it does stick there. It feels a bit loose and I wouldn't trust it over a lot of big bumps or off-roading or anything. But it should be fine for normal driving.I was also worried about putting my phone on a powerful magnet. Would it cause memory issues? Screen problems? Compass issues? I downloaded a compass app and sure enough this mount totally screws up the compass. Even before the compass app test, my phone reported that it didn't like the mount. It complained that the compass needed to be realigned by rotating the phone in 3 directions. I realigned it and the phone hasn't complained since but I was a bit worried about that. And with the compass basically out of service would the GPS work reliably?Well no problem there. Google Maps worked fine. The phone knew which way I was pointed, which way I was traveling - no issues I could detect. Also no screen or memory issues although I've only used the mount for a couple of days.I don't know if the phone's internal compass will be permanently harmed mounting it this way for prolonged periods and I've got a multi-day drive looming in my near future. That possible issue is about my only major worry. Otherwise this thing does work. I doubt anything else would with the Nexus 6.All in all I would rather have a mechanical clamp and skip the goofy magnetic approach. If I do find a mechanical clip model I might go that way. But good enough for now.

Easy to setup, quality is good...AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY
I recently had a dock for my Android Razr...which is useless now, as I completely shattered the screen. Since then, I've upgraded to a Galaxy S III, and being spoiled by a car dock for my Razr, I absolutely had to get a new one for the Galaxy(once you start using a car dock, you begin to wonder how you went so long without one..they are a Godsend). So, how does this work with the Samsung Galaxy S III? It works magnificently, and I would expect this to work just as well with any other smart phone. It's completely universal. The only caveat is that you must place a super thin metal place on your phone via 3M adhesive. This means that if you don't want a piece of metal attached directly to your phone, then you will need to buy a case, and attach it to that instead. Well, if you love your shiny new smartphone, then you most likely have a snazzy protective case for it already :)But, I digress. Here is what I absolutely love about the Magic Grip:1. The magnet is darn strong! My phone is pretty clunky and heavy after I've added a very thick protective case to it. And at times, even unwieldy. My biggest fear when I took the chance on ordering the Magic Grip was that the magnet would not be able to accommodate the clunky size and heft of the phone. Well, it holds it like a champ. Of course, I drive around the city, with the occasional speed bump here and there and yes, I take some fast turns at times. After using it every do so far, it has yet to move, slide, fall off...you get the picture2. It's universal. Since my Droid Razr phone was damaged, I could no longer use my old dock for any other phone, so now it's pretty much useless. The Magic Grip dock...well, it works on any phone. So, when I upgrade my phone again in a couple years or so, I can use the spare mounting plate the Magic Grip comes with and voila, I can re-use the dock again.3. It's flipping easy to setup. Seriously. Remove the adhesive strip, and slap it on your phone. Suction cup the mount in your car and BAM. It's ready to go.4. It's nowhere near the hulking and bulky size as my previous dock. It much smaller, and in a way, looks better since you don't have this chunky cradle staring you in the face every time you get in the car. Instead, you have a soft little round mount. It's pretty nice. That pretty much explains why I like it so much. Primarily, I was concerned about its magnet strength, and it has passed that test with flying colors. If you plan to go back country mudding in your off-road 4x4, then I will bet that at some point the phone will probably not hold up to the magnet...but by then, it would have been covered with mud anyways, right?-dave

Fails to hold if you move it to a different place / vehicle.
Great but don't take it off and try to reattach it to a different surface / place. It no longer holds. Expensive for such a disposable item!

Not quite what I expected or was pictured.
Do not let the images fool you, this device is for smaller smart phones. I purchased this with hopes to use it with my Fire Phone but it seems it is too big.I only received 3 small plates, a rectangle and a circle. The images (and description) mentioned 3 plates and from what I saw they would be larger plates that would give the magnet plenty to grab a hold of. The magnet is also much smaller in size, about the same size as the rectangle that you apply to the case or phone. Not the bigger circle you see in the images.I tested the rectangle plate first before peeling the sticker by simply putting it inside of my case and attaching the phone to the magnet. While it did hold, any movement caused the phone to start sliding before finally falling. It seems the weight of my phone and the case was too much for it to handle.I am returning this and I will get something with a more secure hold so I do not have to worry my phone will fall after a few speed bumps. In the images I put my old HTC One m7 along side for scale.

THE PRODUCT IS SO FAR A VERY GOOD ONE.
THE PRODUCT IS SO FAR A VERY GOOD ONE ....HOWEVER THE METAL PIECE FOR THE BACK OF MY PHONES CASE IS INSUFFICIENT (TOO SMALL) I HAVE A CASE WITH A PROP FEATURE ON IT AND THE METAL PART IS TOO SMALL TO COVER THE ENTIRE BACK OF MY PHONE. CAUSING THE PROP FEATURE TO OPEN EACH TIME I REMOVE MY PHONE AND IT EVENTUALLY TORE IT OFF. IVE BOUGHT A NEW CASE NOW AND WISH THE DEVELOPER WOULD MAKE A LARGER METAL PLATE FOR MY NEW CASE. THEY SHOULD OFFER A LARGER SIZE THEN THE ONES THAT ARE PROVIDED. ILL CONTACT THEM IN HOPES THAT THEY HAVE ONE AVAILABLE. UNTIL THEN THIS IS JUST A FAIR PRODUCT. ILL UPDATE IF THIS GETS RESOLVED.
