Great for oversize coloring books, holding patterns, and heavier books
I was looking for an oversize clipboard to hold my oversize coloring books when I came across this lap desk. I find that it is a great surface for me to work on when I decide to “listen” to a show or movie and color at the same time. The desk size is quite large and holds even the largest of my various coloring books with ease. The really great thing about this desk is that it has a clip built in. It is both a clip board and a desk at the same time. I bought it for coloring books but have also been using it when I cross stitch or crochet to hold my patterns in place while I am stitching.I even use it when I am holding an oversize reading book so that the weight of the book doesn't cause wrist fatigue. I never noticed it before but after becoming used to the Kindle's light weight, when I read a hardbound book, my wrists get tired before my eyes do.All in all, it was a great purchase. I now have two – one for me and one for my husband. I'm also considering this as my holiday gift this coming year for many people on my list. My only caution is that you measure the area where you sit. This is quite a large desktop and you need to make sure you have the proper room for it.

Lightweight and Sturdy
I got this a few days ago after looking around quite a bit for a lap desk to use with my laptop that wasn't heavy but still stabilized the computer and kept it cool. So many of the lap desks I've seen weigh a ton and I didn't feel like I wanted a huge weight on top of the weight of the computer on my lap.The only issue I have with this product is that I couldn't tell from the description whether there would be room on it for my 15.6" laptop as well as a mouse/mouse pad. There isn't, and that's not really a big deal but I thought I should put that in the review in case other people are wondering the same thing. The desk is very light but sturdy, with 2 cylindrical cushions on the bottom that raise the surface up a few inches so that the heat of the computer isn't directly touching your body. The surface on top is slightly rough, so it prevents the computer from sliding around. But I'd imagine that if you were thinking of using it to write on (with pen and paper...I hear people still do that), the rough surface might be an issue. It has a clip for papers and 2 wells for storing...I'm not sure what I'll store there yet, but I'm sure they will come in handy.I wanted an inexpensive and light lap desk and this definitely fits the bill. Good purchase...I've used it daily since it came and I'm glad I have it.

You Want One Like This with a Lip Around the Perimeter
I bought one of these LapGear XL lap desks because it's very similar to an old one I have that finally wore out after 15 years. If you are looking at lap desks, I think this one is the best because:• it has a lip all-around the perimeter to help keep things from sliding off - this is a MUST HAVE feature as far as I'm concerned;• it has 2 cavities at the top to hold slender objects like pencils that would otherwise roll off;• it has a clipboard style clip to hold papers which is very useful;• it is very light;• it has a handle to pick it up with.I have a "fancier" lap desk with a built-in light on the end of a bendable arm powered by batteries inside, but it's useless compared to the LapGear XL: it's too heavy and uncomfortable to use due to the weight; the pillow is over-stuffed and feels like it's going to pop out of my lap with every slight motion; it's like a blanket that holds heat in your lap and makes your legs sweat in the summer; the light on the bendable arm is always in the way, poking you in the face when you put it in your lap and sticking out into the walkway when you put it down beside your recliner; the light is like a mini heater that generates an annoying amount of heat; and most problematic - it has a perfectly flat top with no lip, so things are always sliding or rolling off of it. It's garbage compared to the LapGear XL. The LapGear XL is simple and works and it's less expensive. Get one.

Great for working in bed
I had this for YEARS until I lost it in a move. But it was perfect for staying in bed and working when necessary. In a post-pandemic world where people are now used to (and sometimes preferring) to work from home I can see this becoming a very valuable tool for anyone who just wants to work hard while relaxing a little. Great durability and longevity.

A Little Flimsy, But I Like It.
Tray is just the right size for holding a keyboard and mouse combo--or a laptop and a mouse. I like the pen/pencil slots at the top, and the clip is so handy for holding loose pages, memory cards, business cards--anything that would typically get away from you. I'm one of those people that can sit in one spot and lose my pen, my glasses, my wallet...The tray is a bit thin and will bend a bit when a heavy textbook is placed on it (if there is any space between the board and your lap). The chief reason I bought it in the first place was to get my HEAVY world history and lit books in a more manageable position for studying. I hear a cracking sound occasionally when I have my lap desk loaded with one of these texts, and I expect one day to see the clip just fall off, since that's where the sound seems to be coming from. So I docked a star for that. The lap desk surface is nice and smooth, so a mouse works fine on it without a pad. I do use my mouse on this desk frequently. My laptop is on a small table by my chair. I like to use an external keyboard/mouse combo. The lap tray allows me to do that without moving my laptop to a desk or larger table, and it works great.

Awesome! I would highly recommend to any one who likes to do art while on the couch or anywhere.
I am hopelessly addicted to adult coloring books and I bought one of these for myself and one for my daughter in law (for Christmas I gave her the premium colored pencils and a great coloring book. This lap desk is PERFECT! I love the clip that you can turn your picture to any angle you need to for detailing. It has micro bead cushioning and a carrying handle and 2 pencil or pen recessed areas to hold the colors as you need them

I really like this! If you're going to use it as a platform for you laptop, I would recommend buying the more expensive quality lapdesks, but for me, this lapdesk was perfect!
