Great machine
There are a ton of things to like about this machine. It performs very well, it is a good size and weight, easy to travel with, etc. I have yet to run into any software that performs any less than stellar on it (I haven't tried any super graphics-intensive games - I suspect I could bog it down if I did). The reason I purchased this was to replace my combo of tablet and laptop on the road. As an IT developer, when I'm on the road I'm still expected to be available to support things sometimes, even from conference centers, and I decided I was tired of bringing two (three with my phone) devices to conferences. I looked at this and a Surface (they both had the power I was looking for) and in the end I bought this because at the time, the Surface was smaller and more expensive - this screen was the ideal size for what I was looking for. It has performed its function well so far.A few negatives to point out (focusing on those because there are few, but so many positives):1. The biggest one is/was that sometimes (almost daily) the wireless network card would stop working properly and it would not reconnect without a restart (and even that didn't work 100% of the time). This appears to be resolved by the latest drivers, however, as it hasn't happened to me in a couple of months now (yay!).2. Sometimes (on rare occasions) if I sign out and leave it charging, it won't wake up. I have to hard-reboot it to get it to come back. It appears to be something with the video display because the keyboard keys light up appropriately etc. This also hasn't happened since the latest drivers, but it only happened rarely in the first place so having it not happen for a few months isn't definitive.3. One of the USB ports is pinched too tight so getting devices in and out of it is a pain (it was this way when I got it). It is usable with some shoving and occasional cursing, but it's definitely obnoxious. Luckily there are 2 USB ports on it and I very rarely use both of them at the same time (in fact I rarely use either really). Some notes from things I wondered about when I got it:I actually rarely use the flipping display. Losing the keyboard and touchpad is too big an issue for the vast majority of things I use it for. I do occasionally watch movies on it when I'm travelling and that's the time I flip it, pretty much. It's a bit heavy compared to a tablet for this use, but not unacceptably heavy or anything. This machine has no trouble whatsoever driving an HD display/TV from the minidisplay port if you get an adapter for it. This is great if you want to watch movies/sports/whatever on your hotel TV at night when you're travelling (or even at home for that matter).Overall this was a good purchase.

I like the fact that it gives you the best of ...
Got this for my daughter who was going off to her first year of college. The unit is well designed and portable. I like the fact that it gives you the best of both worlds as laptop and tablet. It has a very high quality display that makes images appear sharp and clean. However, we run into one issue with this device. The first day of use it overheated and shut itself down. We could not turn it on again until after at least 6 hours. My daughter told me it did this again once more while she was in college. This is a major issue i found on this unit so far. Otherwise i like the design and the way it works when it is working normally. I believe the issue of overheating is a major flow. That is why i can only give it 3 stars.

Awesome Laptop
Way better than my last laptop and my last laptop was very good. I like the laptop/tablet hybrid concept. It's fairly portable for 12.5 inches and light. I wouldn't use it as a tablet for prolong periods of time, it's about four pound. However, it is a nifty convenience if your in a comfortable arrangement. It's incredibly fast all around. I would never recommend this to my worst enemy. It would make him or her way too invincible.

worst purchase ever ;(
i usually don't write negative or bad reviews. but this time i have to.before i start the cons, let me say that the only good thing about this convertible, is its built quality and it was the reason i fell in love from first sight . that's it.this XPS is the worst purchase i have ever made. three main deal breakers here. first, wifi issues. it is real. and it is a nightmare. u get disconnected every few hours for no reason, when u attach a usb cable u lose connection. when it goes to sleep and wake up u lose connection. it is horribel. i tried basic driver, updated driver even modified drivers with no hope. i even formatted the system, installed win7, 8, 8.1 with no lucksecond, the dead screen issue. when the device goes to sleep. FREQUENTLY, it won't wake up unless u restart the device. and this is beyond annoying since the only reason u buy a hybird/ ultrabook is the ease of use. and there is no solution to this no matter what u do to update the driver.third. touch response. less frequently than dead screen issue. sometimes the touch response is lost until u restart the device???in conclusion, the quality of build is great. but the hardware sucks and malfunctions alot. i reallllllly hate it and i wish i had bought lenovo yoga pro when i had the chance b4 buying the dell.hope this saves future customers .

Waste of Money
Horribly defective. I bought this brand new and it has been a nightmare. For example:1. It is horrible at connecting to wifi. You always have to restart the computer or disconnect and reconnect to get it to work.2. Touch screen works about half the time.3. Did not have proper audio drivers when purchased.4. The keyboard's space bar is only sensitive at the top.

Be careful if you purchase
I bought this laptop with the intention of replacing my other dell 2 in 1 due to RAM issues. I knew what I was buying and knew that this is an 8 year old laptop at this point. The laptop was brand new in the box and if you didn’t know, not powering up a device for 8 years will kill its battery. I knew this. I will need to replace the battery to get it working again. Other than that, it’s a great product and I will recommend this to anyone that is looking for an older laptop with decent performance and exceptional build quality.

would have been great
This would have been a great unit but...... it never stayed connected to WiFi. After some research I learned it was a common problem. I tried two of these with the same issue happening to both. Other than that, it was super portable, excellent battery life, decent sound, great screen resolution.
