I was so sad when I opened the box. It was obviously a used drum. The drum head was scratched and the base looked like a dog had chewed the bottom. I know part of the money spent goes towards a good cause so I felt like a jerk asking for my money back. 😞

I bought this drum as a starter to find out how seriously I was going to get sucked into drum circles. As a starter it works great - it gives me something I can pound on along with other people around a fire. It comes tuned low for a deep bass, which I liked, but after a couple years the sound quality has developed a high ring to it and I probably should figure out how to tune it properly. It's not very heavy, thus easy for me to carry under one arm. The artwork around the base is beautiful, but the wood isn't polished or finished, which I guess is why it was sold at a discount. An experienced drummer and drum teacher examined it in detail and pointed out the lack of ridging on the inside, which indicated that the drum was probably made in Indonesia, and said there are better (heavier) woods for making drums with better sound quality. But as a starter drum and something to bring along for casual social drumming, it works quite well. My next drum will be more serious-minded, and then I'll bring this one along as a spare for others to play.

Africa Heartwood Project (maker of this Djembe) has done a fantastic job with these djembes. They are middle quality at a very affordable price.

This is a beautiful piece of instrument. I am giving this as a gift and I am confident that he will appreciate how it came delicately wrapped. This is just as it is pictured and i would highly recommend this to the person in uour life who wants to play some drums.

This drum is of superb quality. It comes sounding great and after tuning it sound amazing! You will not be disappointed. Great for beginners or seasoned drummers.
