Yep, it works
The Short Answer:Yep, it costs more than it should for just some molded plastic and screens, but it really does work.Only you can decide if it's worth that extra premium. The Long Answer:I have seen these things for a while. I finally decided to buy myself an xmas present of one. I was pretty doubtful and wedded to my old fashioned blender + silk cloth + hand squeezing method. And what do you know, this ball really does work, even on just a single spoon of powder (and yes, you can't load that ball with too much power.. don't do it, trust me on that). The benefit here: It's faster and easier to take some quick shells. And clean up is a breeze (ie: you don't need to wash the blender, the cloth out, the pitcher/bowl, as well as your shell). It's just the ball and the shaker. I find myself doing smaller intakes at a time, more often. It's less of a "chore" if you will. The downside is that your probably not going to create a really potentent strong grog in a single dose. The ball can't hold enough powder for that. I find myself mixing it up 2 or 3 times for a session. Actually, that's not so bad as it sounds, if your doing something relaxing while your in taking it in.The unexpected thing for me is that it really uses the powder more efficiently. I was so used to spooning in 4- to 6 spoons into a blender.. I don't know if I was being that frugal about it. But this ball helps me really max out the powder. And with the prices of Kava these days, that's not a bad thing. If this lasts a few years, before it busts, then I will consider it paying for itself in terms of less kava wasted.Enjoy.. Bula.

Have a ball!
Excellent device! I’ve done the traditional kneading method, the blender method and some instant powder but this is my favorite so far. I use the ball in a regular cocktail shaker which I already had.

dIFFERENT BUT GOOD.
Ok, so if you like to make super thick and mouth tingling Krunk juice you should probably stick to bags. or do a double in the same water with this. as in do one, dump it then do another. Its a little tricky. With this, less is more. dont fill it up over halfways. I just use one of the asian soup spoons heaping, i dont know the measurement but its half the ball. and DO NOT even use water remotely close to warm. WIth a traditional bag you can even use hottish water but since you are squeezing it doenst seem to gum up as much. if you put this in even remotely warm water it will instantly gum and then your water will barely turn. Youll open the ball and the inside is dry because the instant gum clogged any water from getting in. Coldish luke warm works fine.SO, the good part. You can honestly use less than you normally do and still get good kava. The flavor is great. and most of all.. its convenient. Little to no grime. So you can make a shaker bottle and sit at hte computer gaming or watching shows or whatever. Thats what i do, maybe ill do 2-3 balls. I do double rinse sometimes with half the water. One thing i think tastes awesoem is use the Silk soy vanilla CREAMER in the blue box, it works great and has a good flavor. i put a little in the water for a chill drink. and make a cup of hot raspberry tea for the side.Good buy, def try it. Traditional squeeze is good to but for ease of use this cant be beat.

Game changer for consuming kava!
So pleased with this simple, but very effective tool for preparing Kava! While I appreciate the traditional ways of preparing Kava, I find it too laborious and messy, not to mention, the yield seems to be less.Since using Aluball, I am not only enjoying Kava more, but I am getting a much better yield from it: more servings from a bag of premium, rather expensive Kava than before!! The Aluball is the way to prepare your Kava - it’s just a no-brainer!

Can it be ever right to observe less tradition?
I brew my Kava using the traditional method. I am used to the flavor, and the ratio to water/milk that produces the strength I enjoy. I intentionally used a type of Kava I have been drinking frequently, so I could compare the strength using the traditional method and the AluBall.I refused to believe 30 seconds shaking could replace 10 minutes soaking, and 10 minutes kneading the root. I can confirm, it can't!However, if I load the ball with 2 tbsp, let the ball rest 30 seconds in correct temperature warm water, and shake firmly for 60 seconds, I get a great strength kava with the full experience.I recommend this product without reservation, as not only does it save you many minutes each day, but the minute you do have to spend "working" is utterly mindless (shaking the ball up and down in the cup), versus my usual careful kneading/wringing liquid cycle.Of course there is still a place for straining and kneading when you are making kava for a group of friends, but for one or two people, this is utterly perfect. For full disclosure, I didn't buy the Kavafied shaker. This product works perfectly in my blender ball cup. I see with frequent use the ball is not going to last forever - I am fine with that for the huge convenience it provides.

Kavafied Aluball Kava Maker is the cat's meow for Kava brewing, It's unique, it works well!
I had my doubts about this but it just works. After some experimentation a few times I found that one heaping teaspoon of Kava root is all I need. If I filled the ball or did two teaspoonfuls it would never soak the water completely and I'd toss out unused Kava. What I do now is add the teaspoon of kava and toss it into a four ounce glass of water and let it sit for about ten minutes. I will give it a shake a few times every now and then as I walk back and forth doing my dishes just before bedtime. I had tried using coffee filters but they would break through, even using two of them. It was messy and was just a pain to do. Some have posted about how hard it is to screw this thing together and get the threads maligned. What I found is if you lightly touch the half to the other and turn counter clockwise slowly you can feel a slight click where the threads line up and are now ready to turn clockwise to tighten. This works for any container with threads. It took me a few times to figure this out and I was worried I'd ruin the thing if I got upset or angry at it while trying. Just get one and enjoy your kava I do!
