ELZRA Catacombs and Castles 41502

Very fun game. Deep enough for gamers, simple enough for non-gamers.
This game's an absolute blast. It's good for anywhere from 2 to 8 players, is very open to customization to either shorten or lengthen the game ("average" playtime with two people and using the default rules was about 25 minutes for us), and turns go pretty quickly so there's little downtime.Don't let the rulebook give you the wrong impression, this game is not terribly complex. If you're a gamer you won't have any problem picking it up at all. If you're not much of a gamer, it's really a lot easier to play than the rules might make it seem when you're first reading through them. There are a bunch of different symbols on the disks which signify different types of effects, and memorizing which type of disc does what can take a game or two, but there's a handy reference guide on the last page of the rulebook. Otherwise, the game is incredibly simple. At it's heart, it's really about little more than flicking little wooden discs across a board and trying to hit other little wooden discs more often than your opponent can, which turns out to be a whole lot of goofy fun.If you think you might want a slightly deeper game with a longer playtime, check out the original Catacombs, but if you're looking for a quick-playing, relatively simple dexterity game that a wide variety of people can enjoy, then you really can't do much better than Catacombs and Castles.

Some hiccups to getting started, but an excellent thematic dexterity game.
So the negatives first: applying stickers was annoying, the rules can seem complex at first, and I felt the box itself was lacking sturdiness relative to other board games I've purchased.Otherwise its my favorite dexterity game. Each of the Heros and their various shot discs feel unique, and the special moves all feel powerful. Tons of options to mix and match, including two fun modes of play, and obstacle placement all of which adds to the game's replayability. There's no player elimination and game length can be adjusted easily via the starting shared health pools. Wood discs are durable, and it comes with a cardboard wall that contains all but the most egregious of errant flicks. I found it pretty easy to walk new players through the basics and get them flicking discs and explaining new features/options as they come up. Further, if like me, you enjoy the game, it is compatible with Catacombs, its heavier on the RPG elements brother, and has an expansion due out soon to spice up the game with a Wyvern objective to compete over as well. So there's plenty to keep it fresh for a long time to come.

Flick you!
Fun game of flicking small pucks at opponents pucks. Having a square or round table with no chairs is helpful.
