30ft flagpole or 9m portable radio mast?
I'm trialling using one of these 30ft flagpoles (actually approx 9m from base to tip fully extended) as a portable radio mast for attaching amateur radio and meshtastic antennas. It arrived yesterday and I've been able to check the sections telescope smoothly and lock into place. There are 6 sections approx 1.5m in length that may be pulled out and locked with a twist. The aluminium tube wall thickness is approx 1.5mm as measured on my calipers and each section is anodised (not oxidised as per the description 🤔). Time and heavy winds will tell if the tube thickness and locking system is adequate. But I would advise guying the pole at half height and close to the top if attaching anything heavy. I would worry less with lighter antenna arrays for one day events. When fully collapsed the pole is easily transported.I haven't weighed it, but the UPS shipping labels shows 6kg which I wouldn't doubt.Being a flagpole it comes with a Union Flag which appears to be of reasonable quality. Fixings are provided to allow up to two flags to be hung from thick plastic flag attachments (with a 12mm dia hole) attached to the top of the pole and the next section down. I can foresee the these being useful for attaching HF antennas with them being reasonably robust and insulated from the aluminium pole.A rather gaudy gold plastic ball is provided which screws into a threaded cap located on the top section. Nice if you like that sort of thing, but not for my radio use 😵💫Removing this leaves a threaded hole which may need closing off to prevent rain ingress. Some gloves were shown in the description but were not supplied. Okay, these are not essential, but should have been provided as they are shown in the listing and in the enclosed instruction book. Finally a plastic tube is provided (Length 700mm OD 64mm) which may be set into postcrete in the ground to locate the bottom tube of the pole. (The instructions recommend burying 500mm of the plastic tube underground leaving 200mm above ground level).Time will tell how resilient the twist lock system is. However I intend to use jubilee clips lined with thin rubber to clamp each section (max 5 required) as a backup in the event that the twist locking mechanism works loose or fails. For anyone interested the diameters of each aluminium pole sections are (approx):- lowest (ground level) 60mm then 55mm, 51mm, 46mm, 42mm with the very top section 38mm.Most other flagpoles advertised on Amazon are 20ft max. This one interested me as it's longer fully extended. I may end up using it partially extended but the extra 10 feet is available if required.I'll update this if I discover any issues or non-issues.If you have found this information useful then I'd appreciate a 'Helpful' click 🙂

Do not buy unless you want to damage your neighbours property
Customers need to be aware that this pole has very cheap and nasty locking mechanism, which seizes and therefore submits neighbours to a potential hazard as it would not descope when winds were due and had to be forced down , which the nasty lock rings did not survive. I'm disgusted with the lock ring design surely a mental inebriate could have designed a better system for the guts of a hundred quid

Flag pole
The. Plastic tube supplied to knock in the ground to support the flagpole was completely useless and flimsy
