Very pretty sound ok
I originally hated these speakers. They sounded worse than my cheap portable bluetooth speaker. I adjusted both the speaker settings and my equalizer. My first thoughts are below. I mainly use line in to play flac files as I think the audio improvement over MP3 and bluetooth is worth it. After using bluetooth from my phone and getting good (better than line in) sound i was confused so I tried again. I found that if you use no equalizer at all the whole spectrum of sound is MUCH improved. I wonder if these are not processing internally the line in so that if you use equalizer it ends up over driving. With flat equalizer and just adjusting the bass and treble with the remote the sound is actually what I would expect from $100 dollar amplified speakers and they are pretty and well made.Original thoughts. I bought these for a PC that I was temporarily using an Anker $26 portable bluetooth speaker on in line in mode. I was greatly surprised when the Electohome Speakers in line in mode were a step down in sound quality. The little Anker is a very nice speaker for $26 but... The Electrohome's are very pretty, operate well and include a reasonable manual. If they sounded good I would be thrilled. I'm not a bass fan, don't want to shake a room or even have bass as a dominant part of my sound as some people like. These have almost no bass whatsoever, the mids are muddy sounding and scratchy like they are over driven. Highs? thin and reedy.. I'm not much of a returner, so this was a waste of $109 dollars. I cannot imagine why there are reviews stating they have good sound unless you are comparing to a $10 portable transistor radio or cell phone sound. They are pretty, seem well made if not well engineered for sound. They will go fairly loud and max volume is about what I expected. I really expected better sound quality than my $26 small portable Anker. After turning off equalizer I actually like these speakers. They should mention that in the manual if they are actually manipulating the audio in and equalizer settings can easily result in over driven sound.

Sounds great, love the extra options and the remote
Sounds great! I love the options for the Bluetooth and aux connection built in, and the remote is an added bonus. Super easy to set up with my turn table, and now I can use the speaker to play stuff of my phone via Bluetooth too!

Great looking and sturdy
Speakers work well and are a good match for the record player.

Speaker wire
You need speaker wire to get both speakers to play

Does it what it needs to.
Got these for my bedroom, easy to set up, used my own speaker wire instead of the ones given because I like cooper wire better. Functions as it should except the volume control when connected to a DAC could be finicky, and didn't work with my dragonfly DAC. In terms if aesthetics, I am pleased with the look, has a nice old school feel to them, they're built well also. In terms of sound quality, these are fine for $100 speakers, didn't know what to expect but for that price they're pretty good surprisingly, the bass quality and quantity are not that great, no option to add a subwoofer. These are a nice relaxing pair for general casual use. I wish they offered a 5" woofer option so I can get more bass, I would be willing to spend more money for better sound quality, but these are the top of the line for this company currently, but for the price they're fine, but I will be returning them I would be spending more the get the Klipsch instead. Electrohome can't offer better which I understand, I am not there target audience.

Very, Very Nice!
These Electrohome McKinley speakers arrived at my door, boxed within a box, within another box! Ensuring they arrived undamaged was clearly a priority, and once outside the boxes, the reason was obvious. These compact bookshelf speakers look fantastic! The cabinets are real wood, and have good quality fit, and finish. The black and wood-tone colors are very classic, and classy. The rear connections are also good quality, logically laid-out and simple. At the front, the 4-inch woofer is a poly-pro cone with a butyl rubber surround, and the tweeter is a true silk dome- not a piezoelectric "in disguise", as the component's back side is easily visible- through the tuned port, on the back side of the cabinet. The second thought that crossed my mind, after unboxing these speakers (the first was, "Holy cow!") was, "If these speakers sound even half as good as they look...". I was NOT disappointed. A 'class-D' amplifier may not be 'audiophile quality', but this class-D isn't a cheap toy, either! The speakers have an line input connection on the back, but also feature bluetooth. Nice! I plugged them in, whipped out my phone... and they paired right up. Really nice! And the bluetooth connection stays rock-solid at quite some distance. I walked around my house - a typical single-story, three bedroomer, with nary a dropout. And the sound quality? Pretty amazing for 4-inch woofers! The highs were crisp- but not too bright, the mids were smooth and balanced, and there was plenty of base. These speakers aren't going to rattle your windows... unless you place them directly in front of one... but they fill a room, and they're as pleasurable to listen to, as they are to look at. The tuned port cabinets do their jobs very effectively, and these speakers are at their best, placed in a corner, against a wall. The volume knob on the front is an indexed rotary encoder, but still relatively smooth in its control. And it is a necessary compromise, to allow for the wireless remote control, which is also included. As for how loud they play... I got them plenty loud, without distortion. But the max volume these speakers will provide you, will ultimately be determined by the device you connect- no matter whether that's at line level, or via bluetooth. To sum up, if you want great sound that looks great, too, these speakers are well worth their price.
