Nutty wholesome grain good in lamb stew
This organic pot barley costs a lot more than the usual pearl barley that I use in lamb stew, but it is healthier and tastier. It comes in a resealable plastic bag, which is great for storage and use. The shelf life is shorter than I expected, and I only have 8 months to use it. The packet has good nutritional information on it, but I expected to see cooking instructions which were sadly lacking. I used it in a lamb stew, and it made a tasty and filling nutritious addition. I also used it as an alternative to rice with a curry and it had good flavour and texture complementing the dish well.

Super product and versatile, healthy ingredient
I get bored of eating the same vegetables and struggle to increase the variety of plant-based foods in my diet as recommended. Trend Organic have a good range of healthy flours which are a clever and yummy way to add different flavours to meals.Barley is a great alternative that I use instead of rice or potatoes and so easy to use. Just add to soups, stews, mix in with other veg to make a nutty tasting blend. It expands a lot when cooked so you get much more than the dry weight when cooked so also a good value food. This is hulled barley which is whole grain and the most nutritious version. Contains lots of important minerals as well as fibre and beta glucan. This product is certified organic by The Soil Association which is a very high standard.Excellent item.Hope that helps!

BIZARRLEY NOT A GNARLY BARLEY
500g. of pot barley in a resealable upright plastic pouch with the information printed on it.What is pot barley? There are generally three stages of barley grains available for sale.Whole grain (hulled) barley has the outer inedible husk removed. The next stage, the above grain goes through a 'pearling' machine that partially polishes the grain but leaves on most of the bran, pot barley.A final stage is where 'pearling' goes further to polish the grain, removing the bran also and is called pearl barley.Pot barley is slightly more chewy in texture but may be used in soups, stews, boiled, bread making, etc.I use mine in bread making and casseroles.I have only given this 4 out of a possible 5 stars because organic pot barley is readily available online for around £6.50 (U.K.) for 2.5 Kg.However, this is a premium grain.

Good quality organic barley
Hulled barley is my preference as I like whole-grains that are naturally nutrient rich and flavoursome. This Trend Barley also has the bonus of being organic, sustainably resourced and no GMO. I use barley mostly for soups, stews and occasionally salads. It takes a bit longer to cook but having a pressure cooker helps to reduce its time consuming preparation and enjoy its benefits.Overall I'm very happy with this barley. It's a great product to have at hand in the kitchen.
